came across this doodle bug model a about an hour east of me went to look at it (didnt bring my camera though) its going cheap but its in pretty sad shape. the picture below is from the ad the guy was using to sell it. its on a frame that has been cut down and is rotted through in places. the body is rotted ad the bottom not to bad but also rotted at all the seams at the top of the cowl around the window. the rear end is there and seems solid as is the ****** and motor. they guy also has a bunch of other flat head motors all sitting on the ground along with two front axles that seem solid and a wishbone that has seen better days. the motor ran 30 yrs ago before he parked it in his yard. the price is right and neg. so i am just not sure if its going to be worth the time to make the trips to drag it out of there. i honestly dont know to much about early steel as of yet just getting into the hobby and wanted to see other peoples opinion on the car.

Whats the point of asking is it worth it and not giving the price? How the hell would anyone know.

I think so. It would make a *****in woody!

There was a time when us hot rodders got the dregs left over from the restorers. Some pretty nice stuff by todays standards. If the craze keep going that may become a valuable piece in 10-20 years.

There was a picture in one of the little pages R&C from the 50s that showed a100% complete early 30s Chevy convertible being pulled out of a ditch. It was so complete that there were remnants of the fabric top still on the irons. The caption said something about how rough the car was. They had no idea.

If you don't buy the car buy the sign behind it, that looks pretty cool. My opinion: everything is worth something to someone, if its reasonable buy it and if anything it would make a nice mail box.

If you pay s**** price, you aren't out anything! Buy it and see what you've got. Make sure all the rest of the motors and parts go with it. You might have a find on your hands or you might have 1 million chinese razorblades waiting to be cut...

Nice mailbox idea, RedHeadSled! Gotta figure out how to get momma's approval on that one!

the guy is asking 100 for what is in the picture i think i can talk him down and get the other stuff with it he doesnt want to toss it out but he wants to get rid of it

the real issue is i have a dodge ram 1500 and a car trailer i dont think i can get it all in one trip. with the cost of gas at almost 3 bucks a gallon i just dont know if its worth making the trips i dont think my truck can hold all the weight in one shot.

i dont think there is a ***le to it orginally came from a junk yard as a parts car for the previous owner.

Have you ever loaded your trailer? I mean REALLY loaded it? I've got a half-ton Chevy pickup and I've had 2+ cubic yards of gravel in the back of it, all while pulling a trailer! Now, my bumper was dragging the ground, and I didn't have to go far, but I used that to illustrate the point.

Worse comes to it, I would take my tools and ****** the front axle off of that A (or take the wheels off - it might fit) and stick it into the bed of my truck. Close the tailgate and put a folded up blanket between the frame and tailgate. OR you could pull the gate off and use blocks of wood or jack stands to hold the frame up in the back of your truck - just make sure you tie it in there. Then your trailer is completely free to haul the rest of the load.

Trust me, where there's a will, there's a way. And for a cheap load of stuff like that, your damned right I'd be loading it all up and in a hurry at that!

What parts off it would you be using? $100.00 is chump change but if it's going to be yard art it's a waste of time and money.

grab it all, use the rest as trading material, you can get rid of half of it in a couple of weeks. the vinyl would make an interesting woody.

I've got a pair of Model A frame rails if you need them for that "project".

It's got to be worth $100...but as you say, the time and hauling expense is worth considering.

Take a look at this thread for some inspiration. Some nice cars have been built from stuff similar to that doodlebug:

i want to see pictures of the car (and that sign!) on a trailer in your driveway! the cowl alone should be worth your $100 bux.

Is there a "***le" with it? Could come in handy when you go to register whatever you build.

AND ... if nothing else grab the engine; it has a serial number on the block.
(just above the rad hose outlet on the left side of the engine)

Collectors pay good money for actual serial numbers.

DAMN, I hate when some smart *** says that.

    Well, DUH. Professor obvious.

You're the type of guy who writes, "It ran when parked" in your for sale ads aren't you?

    OF COURSE IT DID. Duh.

You admit to owning a truck and a trailer and I know you can get from one end of the island to the other in two hours. Do you have the $100.00, tools, and an eBay account?
