I have been loaned a Van Norman 965 for my use as long as I want!

Only problem, I haven't used one of these in years. Looking for setup instructions. Anyone know of any info online?

  3. I'll look through my stash and see if I have anything. What, specifically, are you looking for?

I need the cutting tool and guide installation and adjustment info. and If possible a picture the clamp/holdown setup on the block.

My first project is to bore the dry sleeve out of a Mitusubishi diesel. Then I have a couple of small engines (kohlers) to bore. Then an old tractor 4cyl. And, if I ever get to it, a 235 chev.

Yep, got a couple already! Great advice. Don't want to make my inevitable mistakes on hard to replace good old stuff.

The one thing I learned from experience with any of the block mounted bars regardless of the hold down, you need to have as much of the bottom of the bar and the surface of the block in contact as possible. Friction keeps the bar from moving - tightening the **** out of the hold down without much surface contact = sleeve time. I speak from experience. That's a big reason boring fixtures came about - thinwall V-8s with minimal deck surface - not much to grip the bar.

I don't know what a 965 looks like but if it is like my 777 it is worth the trouble to tap a piece of pipe to use in the main bearing location as a hold down. There are a couple of people usually on ebay that will have the appropriate instructions.
