I still have the May R&C in the Library (bath room) I keep getting stuck on Thom Taylors New Nomads. The reason it stops me is when I started building my 52 Plymouth Wagon (over 10 years ago) I took a 52 Plymouth Belvedere Hardtop and shortened the floor pan to fit the wagon chassis. then used part of the Hardtop roof and married the back half of the wagon and roof. I call it a Belvedere Wagon, or two door hardtop wagon. every single car that has seen it says "Oh you built a Nomad!" I don't understand what they see! the Nomads were the coolest wagons ever. but the weren't hardtops, they didn't have quarter windows that roll down to have the look of a "Hardtop Convertible" as they were originally called. Nomads were 2 door wagons with slanted "B" pillars. I guess I went thru the same thing with my chopped 55 chev 210 2 door wagon, people thought all 2 door wagon were Nomads I guess I should just Chop a Nomad next time then stand proud because I fucked up another Classic. Jim
Right, they had frameless door window glass..I think anything with that S curve in the B pillar reminds people of Nomads, designed by Pinin-Farina
That Plymouth calls out for finishing. Example styling that looks modern, and takes away the boxy look of the Plymouth. What happened to the car?
That DEFINITELY needs to be finished! As to people calling it a Nomad,I get that all the time with my Safari.I finally gave yp trying to explain the difference.Ya either get it or ya don't.
I'm pretty sure my Nomad is a hardtop! You'd be surprised how often people try to tell me it's not a Nomad, but a Bel Air. After all, it says it right there on the quarter panel. Sometimes I just tell 'em it's Chevy's version of a Safari!
Well thanks, I think. I had never considered a Nomad as a Hardtop. I can see it doesn't have a fixed frame around the glass. neither does my 75 blazer with a fully removable roof. wow I've got a Nomad truck too! I seem to feel that the quarter glass behind the door post and the B-pillar behind that appears to be different than the Nomad. I've been wrong before, thanks for a different slant on my thinking. But........
That's one of the coolest wagons I've ever seen. Nice job! That would look sweet as a tiki/surf/woody wagon.
