You need to get a Historical plate first, then you get plates the same year as the car and can register them through your Historical affadavit. You can run them on the car, just need to carry your historical plate with you.The historical plates are a one time deal, and tho the application says you can only drive the car to shows, parades etc,not to be used as a daily driver, who would know?I run em on my bikes and had the on my cars and never got hassled.

I finally found one for my 61 from my home county (Florida had numbers for each county). I went on the state web site and I had to send the plate to the state with a copy of my title/registration for authentication of the plate and to assign to the vehicle. I sold the truck but kept the plate???

Go to your states website - I tried a local DMV but they were dumbasses

digging around their website I found nothing, havent called the local dumbasses yet but I did send an email via the Ohio BMV website. One unofficial website I found that says it is no longer maintained said, it could be a single plate. can be repainted any color, can be from any state, Historical plates kept in car

  7. Sounds almost exactly like the law her in MD. I run year of manufacture plates on my 60 an 62. I was pulled over once by a young cop who was unaware of this law. Should have saw the look in his eyes. He thought I was going to be his catch of the week, that was, until I burst his bubble. Then he was pissed / embarrassed and gave me a ticket for a small crack in my windshield. The crack is not noticeable unless you're standing right beside the car. I would make sure your car is squared away as the plates may get a second glance from the law that you normally wouldn't. Here we have no inspection or emissions for historic / street rod vehicles.

  8. different in every state.......... but here's one way :D

Anybody know where to get old license plate pairs? Epay and all of that always have ONE that looks like it was dug up out of somebodys back yard. And in MN you'll get popped if you don't have one on the front too. I've been looking for some time and can't find anything.

  11. Keep looking. The made hundreds of thousands of plates, a good pair will turn up.

Swap meets, garage sales, estate sales, antique shops, etc are all places I've run across plates. And usually cheaper than ebay. ;)

Having run YOM plates for years, I know what needs done.
    1) Buy historical plates @ license bureau and bring your YOM plate with you
    2) They'll scan a copy and send it to BMV
    3) you run the YOM plates on car, put Historical plates under seat
Registration will show both plates in case you get stopped

    Its that easy........

  13. In my home state, [Nebraska] the DMV requires you to run front and rear plates UNLESS you run historical or Y.O.M. [year of manufacture] plates.
The Y.O.M. plate have to be sent to our state capitol [Lincoln] for approval. They check to see if that particular plate for that year, is already being run on somebody else's car. If not and if the plate is in fairly good shape, they send it back with new registration. They also put a single sticker on your plate to show it's been registered in this state...
It's a lotta fuckin around but the good news is, the car never needs to be re-registered every year.....yeah, it's a one-time deal, good for life and initial cost is only about 75 bucks..and you only need to run the plate on the back unless you really want to run the other plate on the front...
No other plates needed to be carried with you because of the old plate's new sticker...cool deal. I ran a 41 plate on my 41 Pontiac coupe. They are cool because in 40 and 41, Nebrasks plates had a stamped impression of the Lincoln capital building on them..
I already have my new 1940 plates for my 40 chevy...same number as my 41 plates were but the colors are transposed from 41 colors...blue plate with orange nembers and design..

....in NY you have to reg the car first with reg plates then fill out a vintage plate form to use plates from the year of manufacture. The plates must have a number that is not already in use of course. Check your states DMV website to see if they have the form available online. Good Luck!!!!!

they answered pretty fast via the website, looks like I bring the YOM plates with me to show the registration people, you can register the car at that time or have it registered already. The only scetchy part is that for the Historical plates you can only use the car for shows and events, it dosnt exactly say this in the YOM section but I wonder if the historical rules apply.
