Illinois salvage vehicle law In order to sell a vehicle for s**** or any other reason you must have proof of ownership. ie clear ***le or bill of sale. The owner must have proof of ownership as well. In order to salvage a vehicle one must call a towing company to remove it. I`m not sure if you have to pay for this . The towing co. then has the right to apply for an abandoned ***le. They may then sell it for s**** or to a rebuilder. The law as myself and other inthusiasts would like to see it. Many older vehicles which said enthusiasts rebuild as Hot ros, street rods, showcars, race cars rat rods have lost ***les. Many of these vehicles are fraudulently ***led with paperwork form other vehicles. This is a practice that should not be necessary. I prepose that individual owners should be able to apply for an abandoned ***le without a rebuilders license. Vin numbers could be ran thru a national stolen vehicle dada base. If it comes back clean the owner would be issued a certificate of ownership. The owner would then have the option to sell it for s****.to someone else or rebuild it himself. Licensing and ***leing would then be the same as any other rebuilt or home built. This not to be a cash windfall for the state but to reduce fraud and simplify ownership of said vehicles. Jerry
yeah or we can just continue to swap tags and ***les and keep it hush hush. haha if a car is so bad that you gotta get it towed away, ive usually just put them out on the road and spray painted on the side "free s**** metal" its usually gone in a few hours cut up and in back of some overlaoded pickup truck full of non english speaking folks. lol
ironpile - you've already posted this once before today. And I say once ironically as you repeated yourself about ten times in the original post. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=174285&highlight=illinois+***le We get the point. Write your local representative about it.
In IL as an individual you used to be able to "Bond for ***le" - put up the bond for 1 or 2 years if I recall right and get a clean/clear ***le from the DMV. (brother did this about 6 years ago.)
I have bonded two ***les in Arizona....no problems....takes about a month to 6 weeks from start to finish with DMV to getting the ***le in hand....most insurance co's (bonding co')charge about $15 for every $1000 in the cars value with the NADA book....but most also have a min' charge of ..$100...did my 61 Dodge Phoenix 2dr HT....and 66 Chrysler NewPort 2dr ht....the 66 was a junkyard jewel...the 61 was sitting in a frontyard...bought without ***le...that was a little risky..but turned out good..but .people have asked me...but what about the bonded car?...can you still sell the car?....answer is YES....the DMV holds the bond...they give you get a "free and clear" ***le....the bond is a safe keep for if, for some reason in the future the last owner would try to claim the car back...the DMV gives them the bond..he can then cash this in...and have no claim to the car what so ever john in AZ
