I have the opportunity to buy a 351c, and would like to install it instead of a SBC, if its easy enough. I know I'd have to change the Maier oil pan, but are there other problems I might encounter? Right now its got the stock flatty. Still runs, but I'd like to use it as a daily driver (I work 15 miles away round trip, no traffic, all freeway) and go faster. I'd appreciate any tips or advice, I've searched as much as I can but I can't find much info on 52-54 Ford mods.
The flatty makes a great daily driver. I drive my '40 daily w/stock flathead - I do 60-70 for the 10 miles of interstate I get on. Of course, you can put a 351C in there too - not familiar with 52-54 Fords though, so can't help you there. Standard SBF mounts will work - you're on your own after that.
I have a 351 C in my 52 truck, 53's I believe have more room. The 351 c is an awesome motor, but if I had a flathead I'd make that thing run.
its real easy. you can do it in a day. no major tools needed at all. simple swap and your done. good luck with that, now give me your flattie. they are junk and shouldn't ever be seen.
the steering column is what i was worried about, I mean i don't see now i can even put headers on the flathead now. The engine runs fine, doesn't smoke but when i did change the oil I could smell fuel. I haven't taken the heads off to check for cracks cause I don't have spare gaskets. I found this page trying to get more information.
