Yes its update time again folks. Been a while since i posted pics of my ride at all but i have been stayin busy in the shop workin on it so heres the latest. I have managed to get the doors latchin with some bear claws, the pedal assembly all finished and, the floor is all in now. Actually was grinding the floor most of this evening as it is. Lets start with what i have done to the doors. I tapered the tops of the doors to follow along the rain gutter with i have also replaced with a beltline molding now. Here is the before on the door. Made some plates to mount the latches in. marked out for cuttin on the door Fit the latch plate to the door, spaced it inwards just enough to be flush with the furthest point in on the inner skin, and allow latch to clear window channel. Added some filler strips and started filling where the original latch assembly was. Door jamb after grinding all and fitting.
Next up on my projects was doin the latch striker bolt in the door jamb, and let me say gettin old Model A wood out of there is a BITCH... After wittling out the area of wood i cut out the lighter guage door jamb material and welded in a piece of 12 ga to support the new striker bolt Here is a pic of the entire assembly all latched in the car.
Now on to the pedal assembly... i know many of you have looked at some pics i have posted and wantd to see more... so this is some more for al you guys there. I tried to get some pics of it all together without the engine in the way so you can kinda see how it works better with all my bell cranks as well. First off i have a before and after pic here of how my pedals started and then after a few hours of grinding and detailing them off how they look. Here is all the parts and pieces all lined up after finish welding and grinding to detail them. This is a couple of assembled views of the pedal assembly outside the car, clamped in the vice here. Here it is in the car, all linkages hooked up and working properly. This is a view from directly in front looking towards the firewall and bellhousing. This is a pic without engine blocking the view, this is how it would sit when you are not pushing the clutch pedal, note that the bell crank is leaning forward. And this is a view of it when the clutch pedal would be depressed, you can see when everything pulls it moves the bellcrank so that now it is pushing towards the clutch fork.
And last but not least i have been finally finishing off my floor by making a tunnel for the transmission and connecting it all together so there is no holes left. Still workin on this part as that is what i was grinding tonight but here is the pics so far... this tunnel is only slightly smaller then my friends tunnel in his modified and it was known as Frankentunnel as it was like a monster... so here we have the Son of Frankentunnel.... Using cardboard to make my templates along with masking tape to mark out where the floor lines should run, I create some more floor pieces. I made it entirely from 16 ga. Probably heavier then it had to be, but it welds nice without warping, and gives some good structure to the car rather then building it all using tons of sq. tubing beneath it all, which i didnt have room for in this vehicle. Piece by peice it comes together. This was the point at which it was at about a week ago, now it is currently all welded and almost all grinded down too.... Stay tuned for more updates in the next week or so.
Thanks,i've been looking forward to these.Mind you,i like a good suspense.HAHAHA.As usual your workmanship is impecable, too bad we don't live closer,i'd be hanging out at your place, hoping to soak up some of that talent.
The pedals were cool , But that bellcrank assembly or clutch linkage as I would call it was awsome.Ingenious, great fabrication. Thanks for pics.
HOLY SHIT Brent, it's looking really good as usual!! I was wondering how your project was coming and when you were going to get us an update. I can see you've been real busy in the shop, it's really coming along. I still can't get over your design and build talents on that pedal assembly and boy does it look tits all cleaned up...nice job. How soon are you pushing to have it on the road? Keep the drive on and the updates coming. LSM
Looking super sweet man! Nice Work. got any inside pics of the workings of that sideways master cylinder?
Good god man. I am so proud to call you my friend. That car is a beautiful work of art! Keep up the great work! Its exciting to see how far it has come. Keep up the great work! Niki = )
Well i would love to take it for a couple of rips this summer but there is a lot to do still and a bunch of money to spend before it gets to that stage. I will just keep pluggin away and see where i get to. The ultimate goal is April 08 to be done and ready to go in a car show.
Actually that was the easy part makin the master cylinder set up. Its just a single bell crank with equal sides. you can see it in the pic of the pieces all laid out. Its the bell crank thats a small triangle. It all connects with heim joints and adjustable rods.
Damn............I think I might hate you!! Looks too nice. Let me take it off your hands and you can start from scratch!! I happen to have a '29 thats barely been touched ready for you to start again. (I wish)
You should do a search and check out some of Brent's other build update posts, he does some awesome work...hopefully we'll see a new update out of him cause I hear he's been making some good progress. There's a few pic's that show the master cylinder in the attached thread, maybe they'll show what you're lookin for. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=239671
I don't know what they're putting in the snow flakes up there but I've been seeing a lot of great Canadian builds lately. Nice work.
