Since the HAMB has been a big help to me so far I thought I would throw this out. My 48 Poncho has a very decent set of original gauges and I like the way they look. However in my parts purchasing phase I bought a set of electric VDO gauges.

Which do you think I should use (all original gauges worked when I was driving original)...the originals with a voltage drop or chunk 'em and use the aftermarket VDOs.

    What's the pros and cons?

I definitely appreciate any input on this!

    Thanks...48 Poncho

    Oh yeah...running a 350 Chevy with 700 now.

VDO= Very Dumb Option. My thoughts, original gauges in a classy car like yours are, well, classy! I would look into having your stock gauges rebuilt, fitted with modern 12 volt movements. I know there a vender on here that does that if you don't have a local shop that does it.

This is really expensive way to go! Ya, it would be cool, but damn, probably alot moe than you bought the whole car for. I'd say run the stock gauges if you can. Run both until you figure out whats normal on the stock one.

Thats not even a question, sell the VDOs to some street rodder on ebay and put that cash into making the original ones right.

The amp gauge will work just fine on 12V as is. No mods needed.

The fuel gauge and the temperature gauge will need the voltage reducer. Look here for more help on that.

That's a shame. There was one at NSRA NATS SOUTH in Knoxville last year that was in decent shape. The guy had $75.00 on it. I thought about it and went back to get it and it was gone.

    Appreciate the help everybody!
