Well I Finally got my little package from vance today...
if you dont know what i'm talking about heres the link http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1765495&highlight=pinstriping#post1765495
it came via usps right before i had to go to work...it made for a long day at work waiting to get out at one in the morning and then rushing home to try and stripe for the first time...i have a new found respect for all the artists out there who do this all the time...i have found in the past couple of hours that i have a real problem with things staying symetrical...i think that most of my problem lies in the right side of my work...obviously that makes me right handed...aas the rules were laid out by Vance i need to post pics of my work...well i'm a little nervous but here are some pics of my first piece ya its not the greatest but for having absoloutly no art background is it really that bad? Now to the other contestants lets see your work too...

Tdreamer, first and foremost I have to say you were wasting any time! Great job for your first attempt. What you’ve done there is nothing to be nervous about for a beginner. Just keep in mind what I told you in the letter that came with your paint and you’ll be well on your way.

Keep posting photos on the Friday Art Show threads as you get things done. I’m sure others will want to see how your work progresses too.

Wow!, not bad for the first time, not bad at all!!!. If your right handed try pulling the left side first , then go to the right side. You can usually tell if a striper is left or right handed, one side is always just a little tighter then the other!!. Starting on the opposite side may help ya out!...Practice, and Practice some more!!!.

  9. Well now I feel real lazy.

Looks real good for the first time out to me. Being one handed is not really actually an ***et. My hands always fight over the tools, pencils, wrenches etc.

    Good shot my friend.

    Chris,

You should have gotten yours by now. Yours was one of the first two that went out. Let me check my reciepts and with the PO and I'll get back with you. If I need to send out another box I will. You'll get your paint dude.

Whoo Hoo! got my paint yesterday. You couldn't have picked a better color that's for sure.

I will try and do this little can justice and I'll post up some efforts when I can. Thanks SO much for the paint.

Tdreamer posted this on the obligitory 'what did you do this weekend' thread so I thought I'd link it here to keep things halfway connected.

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1783259#post1783259

This is exactly why I want to start giving back. I knew that most if not all of those who were serious to take me up on this offer in this public way would actually do something. But I have to be honest, I NEVER expected these guys to jump to so damn quick! I'm really impressed and the artwork for having never done it before is unbelievable. Keep up the great work and keep posting it!

Thanks for making me glad I did this.

  18. So, what else did you guys come up with?????
There has got to be somebody else, I know it's a hard act to follow.
I would love to to see others. The effort counts.

Finally got out and was able to do my first pinstriping with the one shot supplied kindly by Vance. I was sent a deep magenta. The first one done showed me quickly that the one shot was a bit different to handle. I first thinned too much and it dripped on the board I was striping. Lesson learned about how thick I could carry on the brush. The first lines pulled were the thickest ones you see and as I got a handle on the feel of the paint and how I needed to end the lines I found better control. I had a great time on the first one but ended it because my base material was too spongy. I also stuck the palm of my hand in the lines a few times too.

My second attempt went much better. I striped on a harder surface and I had more control. It was getting dark so half of this was done by a few lightbulbs in the garage.

I have tried to not look too hard at other stripers work so I know my striping must look a bit strange to some. Not too sure why some of it turned out so boxy. I like it though. So like another gift recipient stated...Yay or Nay? By the way that's a quarter next to it for scale. Found I could do some pretty fine lines.

Sorry about the long winded post but I'm pretty excited about it.

    THANKS VANCE!

    BR

Those are some pretty nice pieces! I REALLY like the second one! That's some killer work for a beginner.

Ok, first time. Here is one I was playing with last night. I need a lot of practice. Pulling the lines feels natural, but the designs are the rough spots.

My dad (Verne) responded to your initial thread, but I think it was lost in a sea of posts.

He was so excited that a paint rep at his business gave him a couple of other colors. This isn't the Process Green that you provided, but it's the only shot of his work that I have on this computer. Thank you Vance! He's working on tightening his lines and giving something back to ya...

Wow, this is some really cool stuff. You guys have inspired me to go out and practice right now. Good job everyone, it looks really good.

Are there any onther threads that beginners are posting thier stuff to get pointers and and the like? I don't want to hijack this one.

Thanks again for the inspiration fellas.
