Yep, I'm liking my other hobby, messing with old cameras. I took these with a Ansco Shur Shot on 120 film. It is a simple box camera from the 50's.

This camera is the only one in my collection that uses 120 film. It is still readily available. I used the new Kodak color process b&w film, just have my local camera shop send it off. They used to develop it there till recently, but their equipment kept having problems with lint.

It's right here in Redding. It's small and so is the parking. But it has been around since 62 and have been the place on thursday night for ever.

Are good usable examples of these cameras hard to find? Fairly simple to use?
These pics are really cool -- I have been trying to get more into photography and keep getting held back by the cost -- by the time I pay for music equipment and cars its hard to finance getting into something else.

The vintage cameras are a little more expensive to use than 35mm. The old cameras are cheap. My averaged cost for these old things is about $4. I recently got 3 off ebay for $10 total cost. I mostly use the 35mm cameras cuz you get more pics on a roll and can develop them at Walmart.

A man after my own heart. I'm working with an early 1960s range finder / slr...you can line up a split immage in the view finder but it then defaults to a stock distance setting.

I've had good results with the Kodak film you get at Walgreens. It is a 400 film and uses a color process to develop it. 120 film is cool.

Nice shots with that camera. I've got a Viewmaster 3D camera and the accessories to make the round reels, just haven't gotten to it yet.

Neat stuff. When my little brother was still in grade school he took a photo of a '53 Chev PU that looks absolutely stunning. He took the photo with a pinhole camera he made out of a shoe-box! So yeah, I like this sort of thing. Take and post more. We won't get tired of them. : )

Great job with the pics! I love fooling with old cameras as I am a Photog by trade.
Took these shooting 120 film with a pre-war Ciroflex TLR that I rebuilt a while ago.
    Medium format rocks!!

Yesterday I was given a Simplex 126 cartridge film. Today at Salvation Army I found another Ansco Shur Shot and another Argus 75. I think I'm over 20 cameras by now.

I've posted these before, but I thought another run would be good. These are from a Kodak Brownie 2a model C from the late 20's.

  23. wow, great pictures.

when looking for these cameras, what should you look for to ensure operability?

Where do you get film...and developing?

    So, cool

More than cool..., pretty interesting actually. Dont know much about photography but how do you get the correct films for those cameras and then where to get them developed ? regards D.

  25. You would be surprised the places you find these. My wife has about 40 vintage cameras she has found at garage sales and thrift stores. Quite a few take the 120 film. Most will still work unless they were abused in someway. The dual lens reflex are the ones to hunt for.

  26. I have a couple of these Agfa 35mm folding cameras - lots sold in the US I think as I bought the last one from US eBay.

It's beautifully made (would have cost a month's wages back in the day) and has a really high gizmo factor.

Great post! I have a rather large collection of the "old stuff" myself, ranging from 35mm to 8x10" view cameras. I still use my old Pentax 6x7's regularly, but they aren't really that old..maybe late 70's.

I've been able to find the old cameras at flea markets for a couple of dollars. You have to watch out for the odd/extinct film sizes like 620 and such, but the cameras themselves usually work well because they're mostly mechanical and basic. They used to build things to last...

Wow, never knew stepping back in time could be so easy. Is there a brand/model of camera that is most common to find that uses the 120 B/W film?
I have found a Black & White Single-use camera by Konica. Monochrome ISO 400 35MM film with flash. It is a throw away type.

The B&W pics seem to show detail much better than colour.

I have a 1937 Zeiss camera from my dad's estate....I will have to see if I can get it working.
