merc frenched headlights on a 52 chevy

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by flatheadfever, Apr 12, 2007.

  1. I would like to french the the headlights on the 52 and was wondering if anybody has used the kits from nightprowlers site?

I can image that to weld the chevy rings on would be quite hard as they are either chrome or ss.

I am looking for peoples opinions on what looks best and some dos and don'ts.

Are plain steel originial rings available? I think they would be easier to weld to the fender.

I kinda like the look of chevy rings frenched in.

Is there another type that they use?

    Thanks

You can use them and they look good. I used original ones on a 53 Chevy and my uncle used those on his 52. I can't get to my pics now, but I'm sure someone will post some for you. I think they look better than the stockers myself.

  3. I'd go with the Merc rings or, my favorite, '56 Olds. I'm putting the olds rings on mine, since I was able to come up with a set. Had I not found those, it would have been the merc rings from Night Prowlers for sure. I personally don't like the chevy rings, I prefer the tunnelled look of the merc rings. My $.02

Most pickup trucks in the 40's and 50's used painted steel headlight rims. This is what I used to french mine. It is a clean smooth look.

I guess it depends if you like the tunneled look or not. My buddy has a set on his '51, they look good. I used the stock rings that came on my '50 'cos I didn't have the cash at the time for anything fancy and it worked fine (been on for 5 years now, no troubles). I actually prefer the look of the stock rings frenched in myself so I'm glad I didn;t spring for anything else. Scine I have not learned how to post pic's I can't show you but if you PM me I can email them to you. They look pretty much like what FASI (lookin' good FASI) posted without the fancy paint - lol!

I'm not at that point in my project yet, but I've heard the Night Prowlers' kits are good. I have heard numerous bad things about Hagen's kits, so be warned.

  7. The Night Prowler kits are really nice, I used the full buckets. You cut out the size you need with a nibbler and fit the complete bucket in. It was simple except for the screws for the light rings, but they can be had. Not the cheapest kit but I feal it is the best, and your lights are recessed about an indh and a quarter. Over all I am very pleased, I put them on my 50 Buick another GM product. Good luck, Rags
