Are all truck 6-bolt patterns the same?

I'm looking at a set of wheels on ebay...guy claims they're 30 years old, and he had them on a 98 Dakota for a while.
I've heard that all 6-lug bolt patterns are the same, but someone asked a question and said they were the same as a "small Ford" 6-lug pattern.
I'm looking at them for my '62 Suburban.

Chevy/GMC 6 bolt pattern matches many of the Japanese trucks.

All 6 bolt are not the same...Model T for instance is different than your truck.

 

I bought some custom mags from a toyota many moons ago and although they fit a mid 50's chevy truck they would hit the tie rod on the inside bead of the rim. Just some info for ya.

 

There's a few exceptions, but they're pretty much all the same.

i say no. i believe that they are 6 on 4.5 bolt . i know for a fact that '92 ones wont fit on any thing other than a viper. they are the only two cars i know with this funky pattern. Trout

 

I had mags off a friend's 54 Chevy on my 92 Nissan, and just gave another friend a set of steelies from a early 90's Toyota for her 55 Chevy.

 

Dakota is 6x4.5"
88 and on GM is 6x5.5"

 

Dakota AND VIPER are 6x4.5"
Everything else I know of is 6x5.5
1) On your suburban check the wheel studs length, especially the rear. They may be too short for comfort with a thick aluminum wheel.
2) Watch out for the inner hub diameter on "factory" wheels
3) Check that the wheel sits flat on the brake drum. I've seen some GM truck drums with a raised "ring" around the outer diameter that will keep the wheel from sitting flat.

 

actually the "idea" of 6 on 4.5" comes from mitsubishi. they built a small truck already on that pattern which was also the dodge d-50 and the mitsu raider. chryco sought to build an "all new in 92" mid-size and considered it an evolution from the small truck series when they built it. hence the 6 bolt pattern. at one point it was thought that mitsu was to be the builder of frames and the running gear so they designed the preference in. it never happened that way but the pattern stuck. the earliest dakota trucks that ran 5 on 4.5" were from equipment that was leftover from the days of building f-bodies (aspens and volares). at least thats the way i read it somewhere.

 

Not exactly true on only 2 6-hole patterns The GM Trailblazer and clones are 6 on 5". Why? Because they can...

The guy selling those Dakota/Viper wheels is smokin' something. This is the second time he's had them on. I had to tell him how to measure the bolt circle...and they can't be 30 years old as I believe the 6 on 4.5 originated in the 90's. He was claiming that they were Halibrands the fgirst time around.

And the new Ford F-150's are 6 lugs on a 135mm pattern.

 

While we're off on a tangent....who can name the 7 lug vehicle

And especially to Charlie! Must be the same wheels. He said they were 16x8s, which I figured might be possible since some trucks did have 16-inch wheels then, and I know some drag slicks had 16-inch rims, so while uncommon I didn't think it was out of the realm of possibilities.
He's got them listed by Halibrand Micky Thompson wheels this time.

Ford 3/4 ton....had one at the shop a while back....

 

If I remember correctly, 1997-2000 Ford 250's. Been a while.

 

The Ford F-250 is correct, but I just saw an early 30s Packard truck with 7 lugs too.

 

Yep...parts place will ask ya if it's 7 or 8 lug when ordering brakes.....

 

And, F-150's until 2003 with the "7700" package.

 

It had 7 lugs on the plastic hub cap not the actual wheel right?
