Ok Guys i need help it is driving me crazy i have a after market turn signal switch i have wired it up and the only the rear right turn signal is working . i have tested the switch and the right wires work and when i put it to the left side there is power to those wires also but nothing is working any help would be appriecated thanks jason
Is this new or used? Here's one of those chrome ones with a red emergency flasher pull knob. Schematic for it:
Thanks that is the switch i have it is new i have a rebal harness and all the wires are there to wire it straight up . i have followed the diagram is the red lever hazzard ?
Yea, pull it out (left) for emergency flasher (designed to be pulled by two fingers). That's a strange problem, with it only working on one light. Will have to think about that. Recheck the grounds at each light.
you say there is power to the left wires............... measured where? I would check for a bad socket, ground or bulb in there.
I went through the same frustrating problem last week. My brother finally figured out that the diagram I got with the new turn signal switch was wrong. Everything is working now, but I sure wasted a lot of time.
the thing is that all the lights work but the right one does not work when headlights are on . Good Wood what was wrong about the diagram?
have you checked your wiring harness to see if the blinker is getting power all the time when the lights are on?
the weird thing is that the socket gets power when i tested it with the test light . but the bulb does not light up. i dont know what could be the problem
so it gets power when the lights are on but only works when the lights are off??????? hook up a seperate test light to the output by the tailight.
there is power to the socket when the lights are on and it did work before i hooked up the turn signal switch , now the only light that blinks is the right rear .
Check the grounds on your HEADLIGHTS. Sounds like it may be trying to find ground through the signal thus cancelling out the voltage to the turn signal. Sounds odd but bad grounds cause all sorts of weird **** on lights.
Check the grounds to ALL your lights. I had weird turn signal problems last year and got all hung up on the headlights. Turns out it was the taillights causing the problem -- they're hooked up to the turn signals too. While you're at it, check your fenders where the lamp housing attaches. If you've got a lot of bondo around your lamp housings, your lights may be grounding, but they may be taking a really weird path to get there.
What Virgil said,,Grounds. Bad or insufficient grounds will drive ya nuts. Ground everything on old tin and I mean everything Batt to engine, engine to frame, frame to tin,and accesory grounds for all fixtures, particularly if the sheet metal and sockets haven't been dis***embled and cleaned.
Are you using aftermarket tail lights? If so the ground wire on those china repops is white not black. I learned that the hard way!
ok i have checked all ground and it is still not working right . now my brake light only works on the right side also i dont know what is going on
I'm ***uming you have bulbs with two elements in them. Check the bulbs and make sure both elements work. Be careful and don't let the power wires short to ground in the next steps. Disconnect all the wires from the new turn signal switch. Measure, or use a light tester on the wire that goes to the flasher units pin labeled X. It should be 12 volts or better, or the tester light should illuminate. Measure, or use a light tester on the brake switch wire. It should be 12 volts or better with the brake pedal depressed, or the tester light should illuminate. Take the brake switch wire and connect it to the right rear turn signal wire, and then to the left turn signal wire. Depress the brake pedal, and troubleshoot if it doesn't work. Take the brake switch wire and connect it to the left front turn signal wire, and then the right front turn signal wire. Depress the brake pedal, and troubleshoot if it doesn't work. At this point we know all the turn signal elements of the light bulbs, and the wire harness works right. Now take the "L" pin of the flasher unit with the "X" pin connected to +12 volts, and connect it to each of the turn signal light wires. Each turn signal light should flash, and the flasher should make a mechanical noise. "Tick-Tock..." If all that works, reconnect your turn signal switch wires one section at a time. First the brake section, then the flasher section.
Checking grounds is good. Making new ones is better. Something isn't grounded even if it looks like it all is.......honest
Find where your headlights, taillights, and turn-signals ground to. Sometimes they just ground with the mounting hardware. Disconnect the wires at the point they ground, or remove the lights if they use the mounting hardware. Use a wire brush on your drill and get after it, removing rust. Re***emble. If the lights are grounded to the body, you can add another wire and ground it to the frame. If you own a multi-meter, the easiest way to check grounds, is you should have zero ohms between the lightbulb ground and the frame. Measure zero ohms between the body and frame as well.
Get a couple 'gator clamps and wire em together and start hooking to bare metal. Just to test I use a test light : Hook the clamp to the power and tap around till you it lights up! It's all pretty easy Mrs Bluto has Ol' Fiats I gotta ''reground'' stuff all the time You can get fancy I've seen testers made with a buzzer. If you wantta put some kid to work feeding his family go get one from HF
