Hi folks, just asking on here to see your opinions.. On the Shoebox... 49-51 with the Flathead V8, would the economy headers from speedway work? or would the fenton's be a better fit. The price difference is big, so I'm asking. Thanks

I bought some $100 cheepo headers sold in various catalogs. They looked like they would work but didnt. The bends were wrong and dumped right into the steering box.
I reccomend going with Reds headers, he guarantees the fit or money back.
When you buy two sets because the first ones dont fit his slightly higher price doesnt seem so bad.

Spoke to the folks at Red's and the headers that clear all stock steering systems on the shoebox with new gaskets and bolts and a couple of cans of the aluminum silver spray AND shipping was cheaper than the fentons and will ship tomorrow the latest. Looking forward to it. Will post pics next week.

Ordered the headers from Reds and I had them this morning, sprayed them and baked them, now getting the flange installed and will do the whole exhaust headers back on Tuesday morning. Thanks Reds, and Flathead Ernie and everyone else for suggesting them.

  7. I worked on some economy headers from Speedway and discovered overlaps in the tube connections that blocked half the tube!!! Check them before installation, I was able to open them back up. Not made in USA I'm sure.

I run Red's headers in my 51 Shoebox and have no problems. Maybe a little tight on the drivers side but nothing you can't deal with.

Red's is the only way to go. The one size fits all don't fit any. Go with red's they work the first time with no worries. I run them on my 49.
