welding a oil pump pickup tube

    i used to use pre-flux rod when i did brazing,just because it's so damn convenient.

    some guys don't like that stuff though.

    yea i was thinking that but i have never welded a pickup tube before so i just wanted to here what some people are using

    can you just tack it with a mig?

    All I ever do is tack weld them with mig never had one come loose. GREGG

    nope the pump is a cast and the tube looks to be steel it needs to be brazed i do belive

    Tack a small washer to the steel tube and safety wire it from washer to pump screw.

    i tack mine with a mig, never seems to come loose, today i`m pulling the pan off a 250 i ran for over 20,000 miles and i`m hoping the tack has held.

    Mig welds hold just fine for this application

    Yeah but brazing it is old school, period correct!:D
    I'm an old guy, I like using br***, when I braze something I KNOW it is gonna stay.
    But I like the safety wire suggestion best.

    Last one I did, I welded a tab on teh pickup that then went under one of the cover bolts. Good and secure, but easily removable if I ever want to/need to swap pumps.

    yea i brazed it.. and i did a search the only thing i found was on silver soldering ,i was looking for other options not ***holes
