Really stupid questions

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 1oldtimer, Apr 15, 2007.

  1. on a '51 ford that is still 6v positive ground.

    1. does the coil still gets hooked up with the points going to the neg side and the ign wire to pos side ?

    2. when checking the dwell after setting the points with a feller gauge do you still hook up the leads as regular (pos meter wire to neg terminal on coil and neg meter wire to ground) ?.

And does the increased voltage switch twards source in a negative direction?
On days like this I alligator clip the red wire of my meter to the positive ground. Then the black should be my "hot". Hot from the keyswitch to the coil, coil to the points/capacitor.
While your sleeping on the fender I'd wait for the drawing someone will soon send.

  3. No, the points side is always battery earth, which is + in your case.

Again, treat negative as battery negative, not as vehicle ground.
