I went outside this morining and the door was open in my 66 F250 and the stereo was gone and then I looked at my 65 custom 500 and the wing was yanked open and they tried to get the stereo out,I had modern stereos in both and spend some time getting one to fit in the dash of my 65 but all they did was mangle the area around the stereo and take the face plate. I can order a new face plate and have the parts in stock to repair the damage but they dented the dash in the F250 but I can hide it some, the whole neighbor hood got hit and I was the first to report it. Something must have spooked them as they did not get at my 92 F150 daily driver as it has a new stereo in it so it looks like the face plates are comming off when not in use. Jeff
I had the keys to remove the stereos for both in the glove boxes, they opened the on in the truck but did not look too hard. I have the factory block off parts for the 65 and I am thinking about mounting it to below the seat on the drivers side like I done in my 55 but the face plates are comming off. I am suprised they looked in those vehicles for stereos as usually they dont have them but at least I was not the only one who got hit,I will have to pay to repair as I did not have fire and theft on those two vehicles. Jeff
I used to do high end car stereo in the late 80's-early 90's and would do so much thief repair/replacement it was shocking. One way to **** with thieving *******s is to duct tape razor blades along the back side of the radio so when they go behind to yank it loose they slice the hell out of their hands. It'll make 'em think twice the next time
25 yrs ago in Tulsa, a buddy was tired of getting his stereo ripped. I'll never forget showing up at his apartment to find him soldering fish hooks on his new one. Next time they left the stereo but dripped blood on his floormat and kicked his door in...
You might also get sued for entrapment. A buddy of mine had done the razer blade trick after a prevous break in and the greedy ******* came back for seconds. After the whole ordeal he had to pay medical expences for the thief, get his car cleaned, repair all other damage to his car, and miss alot of work tied up in court. However the thief got 5-10 for a whole slew of burgleries in the area, plus the added benift of limeted use of his fingers,(severed tendons!).
A trick I used in my store in the 90's was a pair of 125db piezo sirens mounted where the stock speaker went..along with the normal alarm...they are so loud in the car it will burr yer vision!!
Duct tape a live cobra to the underside of the dash. It'll keep insects out of your car, and really play hell with the stereo thieves---
entrapment, my ***! wtf is that guy doing in your car in the first place?? let me guess, was it in the Republic of Kalifornia??
Oh yeah....might make a mess of the carpet but hey - you can follow the trail of blood and see what happens...
i dont put stereos in my cars, i dont like the racket. but i have had things stolen, my tote bag full of dirty cloths. has anyone tried using spycams as security in theres rides? or gps tracking if they steel the whole thing?
The place I work installs alarms and even though I am tired of hearing them being tested I am seriously considering installing one with a siren and horn honk to make plenty of noise,I wont install the little LED light so no one will know a alarm is in the car. Jeff
back in the late 80's i had a 70 nova street / strip car. it had a $25.00 sony stereo in it at the time. i never locked the doors on it, and some idiot busted out the drivers door window, to rip off my $25.00 sony stereo. the car was in my driveway at the time that this happened, in the middle of the night. the cost to replace the window was more than what the stereo was worth. i never locked the doors for this very reason...and they still busted out my window. all i had for an ignition switch was a push ****on (with a battery disconnect switch in the trunk). if this person had any real brains, they could have figured out how to get it running, and they could have taken the whole car. this car was normally parked in the garage every night, but my dad had just bought a 48 chevy, and it was in my garage space....that's why my nova was outside.
Mine got ripped out in Brooklyn one night while I was at my girls apartment. Those stupid ****s don't care what it comes out of just a few extra bucks for some crack. They stole all my CDs too so the first Ubangi I see listening too any doo wop or rockabilly is gonna get his teeth kicked in.
That also reminds me of a friend who used to take his detachable face plate and lock it in his glove box while he was at work. I told him if a thief gets in and tries to open the glove box and it is locked, they will know something is in there and will do anything it takes to get in....prying it open, trying to bust the lock etc... Well one day it happened..his stereo was gone and he had a busted up glove box and dash to add to his troubles. And as far as setting up a trap for the thiefs I agree it is a good idea...but I have also heard it is entrapment...something about an illegal ****y-trap or something like that. But what I don't get is if the thief was not there in the first place he wouldn't be ****ed up with an injury.
Uh.. mount the whole thing in the glove box!.. My buddy that has a nova did this.. I'm sure you guys have thought of it before. But i think its pretty clever.. Too bad my T-bird doesn't have a glove box.
They tried to steal my daughter's 62 bug, but fortunately she had asked for a reverse lockout for her birththday, which I had gotten her and installed. Only to have them steal her CD's. They also took the taillights off my '58. pissed me off! Next day we got a Dobermann. No more thieves no more tagging! Just got to listen to Zeus bark all the time. Worth it in the long run. He's over 10 yrs old.
That's a handsome dobe, i can hear mine barking rite now. I got my stereo ripped off wed nite while i was working. Same deal, busted the window even though the p***enger door was unlocked. The stereo didn't even really work. It wouldn't play any cd's any more, the volume on the radio would cut in and out, and it was missing the plastic piece that goes around the face. Plus they cracked the dash around it getting it out. I have a 500 dollar deductible on my insurance and the cops don't even come out for a smash an grab where i work. So i guess i'm driving around without a window for a while. Can't wait till that crackhead walks into the shop next week asking me if i want to buy a stereo.
RAZOR BLADES AND FISH HOOKS, KILLER IDEA! a buddy of mine had a 65' olds cutless that had one of those alarms that was silent but was remote alarm. we used to bump his car, hide and watch him fly out of the house. one night we did it 4-5 times then went to bed. 20 minutes later we hear this dude screaming, turn out some ***hole was hiding under his car he has crawled under when he heard him come out of the house. my buddy thought we were still messing with him and was pissed so he decides to go to his girlfriends house.gets in car cranks up the tunes hits reverse and drags this ***hole under the car 40+ feet before whatever he was caught on lets loose and surprise! he pops out in front of the car with major road rash going on. needless to say he calls the cops and they haul him away. good thing he changed his mind and didn't leave as we found most of his lug nuts loose the next morning.
Yea the razor blade idea sounds great, but dont do it! My buddy did it, and found his car with blood inside and every window smashed and panel dented....I said hey man just think if you hadn't put the razor blades in there you'd just have a missing stereo right now....
