1st - Yes I searched. Now, my question is has anyone here ever built a T using a California Custom Roadsters T body? I am curious about 1st hand knowledge/experience with their product. I know steel is better in a lot of guys eyes, but I'm not asking about steel and I haven't ruled steel out as of yet. Just trying to learn more about CCR's build quality. So please don't blast me about considering gl***.
CCRs build quality doesn't seem to be an issue. It's their delivery time that raises eyebrows...and temperatures!!
I don't know anything about these guys, but they are located near enough to you that you could pick up the body and maybe save the shipping charges. http://www.tperformance.com/
WOW! What a **** message board that is. So ****py I can't even deal with looking at it. Absolute garbage. Hello 1999 message board....
Shipping is always an issue with bodies and frames. Having a T body shipped from California will be more expensive than the cost of driving to CT and picking one up from TP. I've done business with TP and they were great to deal with.
What I like about CCR is they have the streched body. I'm 6' tall and want a bucket. Most buckets will fold me up like a pretzel I am afraid.
My Son's M.A.S. Body is as smooth and straight as a sack of walnuts !,.. and extra thin in the cowl and the firewall area.
I used to work at Total Performance. The bodies are pretty good (for what they are...). I would highly reccomend that if you decide to go that route. Get the floor and "body kit installed". I have put in hundreds and they can be ***** your first few tries. Drop me a PM if you want any more info on that place.

Being 6 ft tall is not necessarily a big deal in a bucket, unless you are big in the waist (40 plus) and long in the legs(36 plus). It is the placement of the controls and floor layout that gets the taller guys in trouble. Remember when you're building the car, it is for YOU! You should be in and out of the body at every stage of setup and finish to make sure you can easily reach and manage all the controls and are comfortable. Don't fall for the BS that these cars all ride like logwagons and can't be long distance runners.
I bought it off e-bay and was told it came from big dog or old dog out of St. Louis Mo. the only thing that was trouble for me was the frame was not wide enough. The frame came from e-bay too and I redid all the mounting points and added 13 1/2 inches to the length. I could have used a thinner seat but they work http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a25/swade41/100_1012.jpg
This is a ccr body, came with a steel inner frame & seat riser, full floor and working door.the gl*** is thick & has held up pretty good, cars been together about 7 years.as pasadenahotrods says the wait time is the bad part, about 4 months if I remember right
2 things about tbuckets: if you can get a 27 roadster body instead!!lol, just joking(?) when ya build it put the steering box on the frame in front of the firewall( not under the floor like totals) and cut a door in the p***enger side, i built mine 9 yrs ago & i'm really getting tired of climbing in and out. I have the steering box under my floor & i can't get my foot between the kick panel & the steering column. One other thing keep the seat riser real low & the seat back very thin.Every 1/4 inch inside a T is valuable. JimV
sorry i got off subject & wasn't answering your question "specifcily". I think most of the sellers of T bucket bodies have theres put out to bid then go form there, so if you have a nice body from 3 yrs ago it might be better or worse deppending on hows making it at the time( lowest bidder?) jimV
I have a total performance, but it's a roadster not a bucket. and yes, it's TINY!! see link: http://www.fishgazam.com/gallery/threshers_hotrod/Threshers%20Hotrod018_med.jpg That being said, it's quality is excellent and the longevity speaks for itself -it's 30 years old (!!)
My T is from Cl*** Gl*** and Performance. I think the body is prety nice. A couple of others thought it was pretty thick. It is extended 8", 2" in the cowl and 6" from the dashboard to the back. I'm 6' 4" and I think it's comfortable. you can look at http://fp.enter.net/~longt Hasn't been updated lately though. When I get to my other computer I'll pst a 'finished' pic. Bill
I got my body from a guy in Marysville, California and it's number 4 out of his new mold. It's nice and thick and the body lines are crisp just like the originals. Also it has a very meaty mounting flange for mounting it to the frame unchannelled of course. He'll ship them Greyhound wherever you want and the shipping is very reasonable and his price of the bodies is much more compe***ive and considerably lower than all these big buck outfits like TP. I found him on E-gay a couple of years ago, I know he is still in business as I picked up the pick-up bed from him late last year. I believe he operated under PF Hot Rods I think, I have his business card at home if you're interested.
Here is mine with the CCR long body. Body construction is quite thick and no wood reinforcement is required. Floor is molded as part of body. As has been mentioned - delivery time was quite long.
CCR is right down the street from me and one of my good bro's went down there to check them out, they are all real Kool people and very willing to do custom work on their stuff to fit your needs with out a Huge mark up in price, my bro said. Also he says they make a real Nice product! I say go for it! But please keep your eyes open on sites like e-Bay for the real steel! I recently bought a '27 complete cowl for $90 bux, found free 26-27 doors and another buddy gave me a free '27 ford bed, it only took me 1.5 yrs to get all the body for under $100! So what you can do is get the CCR body for now but just keep searching for real steel, then you can make the CCR body into a rod for family or friends! Good Luck!
Do you have any other pics of your car you can share? Did you build the whole per CCR plans? What size wheels and tires are you running? How does it drive?
