Ok, so my girl and i have had the plan for awhile now to get married in Vegas.
After her first trip (this year) to Roundup, she's all "gung-ho" about car shows, cars, ect.

and WITHOUT me saying a word about it, she decided to plan our Wedding date around next years Viva Las Vegas....gotta love a girl like that!!!!!

but anyways, if all goes well....we will attempt the LONG drive from Houston, TX to Viva in the '53.

my question is....just cause i've heard mixed things...but what does everyone think about the Gold Coast as far as a place to stay for the show? i had a couple people tell me not to bother with it and stay at the Orleans...i don't really don't care, but Katie (my girl) wanted me to post and ask cause she's wanting to get everything set up and reserved come this winter.

i've never been to a Viva show, so i guess we're just trying to see if anyone has any suggestions while we are planning this out to make the trip as good as possible.

    thanks.

If your into the rockabilly seen, then the Gold Coast would be the place to stay. If you want to honeymoon, then I would suggest the Rio across the street.

  4. The Gold Coast is almost sold out for next year already....

The Orleans is OK, but a bus ride away, The Palms & the Rio are across the street from The Gold Coast, and offer a small discount for people at VLV...

Check the VLV website for participating hotels & discount codes

    are you sure?
usually you can't reserve rooms any earlier than like 11 months, tops...most places wont let you do it a year in advance.
the palms and the rio don't look like they're giving discounts.
the site says the palms doesn't want any of the VLV traffic/buisiness at they're hotel.

i guess i'll keep an eye on it.

    thanks!

  6. Yup, absolutely, dunno if its a deal Tom works out with them specially for the show, but anyway, it's less than a year away now anyhow

We booked our room's for next year the day we arrived (Wednesday) We always do it every year.

As for the Palms, fair enough, but a bunch of my friends stayed there this year...we stayed at the Rio last year.

The gold coast is tops to stay at. If its you and your lady get a sweet. Its bit more then a normal room but well worth it. I loved staying at the GC. IU would get drunk go up to my room hang out take a shower relax then go back down and I didn't have to wait for the god forsaking Orleans shuttle.

Good tip for any one is when your at Vivia book a room for the GC the second you get there for next year. You have up until 3 days before the date on your reservation to cancel so it worth it. Also then i suggest stay at the Rio its right across the street and the rooms are much nicer or a place I never see any one stay at is the Palms. That place is nice too and right across the street.

  19. Yep, the Gold Coast always sells out before the previous year's event is over. I got my room for next year before we even went this year and they said they were almost sold out.

I have stayed at the Orleans and the Gold Coast and let me tell you, the Gold Coast is sooooo worth it. The rooms are smaller and not as nice, but it is so nice to be able to push a ****on and be in your room. In previous years I feel like I wasted a lot of time waiting for shuttles and cabs. Plus, it is nice for the ladies when you want to change clothes, need a band aid, need comfy shoes, or want to touch up the makeup. I am sure your girlfriend would appreciate it.

As long as you are on the waiting list, you should be fine. A lot of people get rooms and then decide not to go, so I wouldn't worry too much about it yet.

I can tell you as an alternative, that the Rio's rooms are realllly nice...so if you can't get a room at the GC, I suggest the Rio.

I had a great experience at the rio last year. also I believe every room is a suite, plus, well in at least our room it had a peep window looking into the shower so you could spy on your lady taking a shower or at least piss her off.

If your getting married, you better go all out. Even if you decide to stay on the strip, its only 1 mile down the road.

    yea, i agree.
my girl and i were talkin' last night about it all and she was ALREADY kinda freaked that Gold Coast and The Orleans are booked for the show....but i, on the other hand could care less about staying AT the show....just wanna go get married, have some fun, be a little spoiled and end it all with a good car show. :D

  23. I stayed at the Orleans last year. It was no problem using taxis, although I didn't bother with the shuttle. Didn't make it for #10, but I hear Axle and his crew added bands at the Orleans

We stayed at the Orleans this year it was good, the bus is good and the cab journey can't cost much it's only about 2 miles from the GC. We saw some people walking it. As for Viva as a whole, I don't wear cuffs or grease and I still loved it but then the Dynotones were playing in the bar. There were no bands at the Orleans but there were a load of vendors.
