I just picked up a 1961 pickup , 235 for my 51 chevy. droppin the motor in should be pretty straight forward.

I am going to be using the rear end out of a 4x4 S10 blazer.

what transmissions are you guys running????

I thought about a 700r4.... but I'm also thinkin of using a 5 speed manual....

any thoughts??? any problems specific to running one ****** over another... I know I want to run an overdrive ****** of some sort due to the fact that I'm not going to build the motor up much over stock and I'm going to use it for a daily driver. so it has to be able to roll on the interstate without revin the hell out of the motor.

A 5 speed manual is the way I would go, tired of being shiftless!

the adapter for the 700r4 is pricey over 300.00 i think. and the 5 speeds are not cheap either. you need the correct bell hsg for the 5 speed but easy to find. your right about getting more gear to cruise. the 235 came before freeways and there was no need for high gears. these motors are real torque types and like a real high gear. if you want to get by on the cheap, a saginaw 3 or 4 speed and some where around 2.75 rear would be a good combo. the high gear final is really all its about.

do a search on this topic, you'll find more info than you ever wanted to know on the swap. FWIW, i have a 700r4 behind my 235, and i'm a happy camper

If you go with a 5 speed, use an S10 T5. It'll bolt up to the stock bellhousing-no adapter needed.

I think you will need a 48 to 54 truck bellhousing to bolt in a 5 speed as the cars had the small bolt pattern trans untill 55,I think someones making a adapter for the small bolt pattern bellhousings but I have no idea who. Jeff
