I have a set of chrome smoothies #64 from wheel vintiques and another set of their baby moon hubcaps recommended to go with the rims. #1011

They are hard as hell to get on, the person at wheel vintiques said to get them set over two of the nubs on the rim and push, and I mean push, then over the 3rd.

Well I thought I had em on fine but went for a little spin today and three fell off before I went 50 feet!

Anyone with these have a way to get em on and to stay on?

    Help.

Didn't you say they were denting when you were pushing ? Maybe there is to much chrome on them.

No, that was another set, they were the same ones, I thought the first set was bad, or not made for the wheel so I returned them and picked up another set that was the same.

put a little white grease on those bumps, then center the hubcap and push quick. worked for me.

did you get them painted yourself or have them powder coated from w.v.? I have a set of smoothes that were p.c. from them and badymoons and they went on ok, I did like they said and put the cap on over two bumps at an angle and hit over the third bump right on the edge so it doesn't dent and pow, they went on.
Now I have to worry about getting them off and not messing up the rim finish.

Not painted or coated chrome rims and stainless caps, did you use your hand or a rubber mallet?

used the palm of my hand on the edge of the cap. once they were on I have around a 1/16 gap between the cap and rim.

I bought a set of the 39 standard caps...pretty much the same thing. They are hard as hell to get on. I put them on using the angle method and still managed to ding one up. I would not recomend using a mallet.

These new manufacture hubcaps are very thin material compared to old "original" caps. They are very easy to ding when installing them and even by looking at them sideways. And installing them can be a bee-atche! Wouldn't it be nice if some company would make equal quality products to old stuff and we would be willing to pay the cost for quality, which most of us aren't??
