If you use helical cut gears, make sure the gear spacer and sholder hold the gears in proper alignment and not allow them to walk forward and backward. Also be sure they do not rub on the rear cover and that they are supported by the rear bearings. Its usually best to use axial bearings in the rear cover. There is a tremendous amount of axial force in a helical setup. The Winters rear covers are strong enough to take it. They have more and bigger studs than Halibrand.

However, the helical cut gears are a lot quieter.

Hot Rod, can you put a copper/brass spacer behind, cut w/ grooves for oil penetration?

Will that work to keep the gears from rubbing?

Some gears have a small sholder on the i.d. This sholder should contact the inner race of the rear cover bearing before anything else rubs. If it doesn't, a bronze washer might do the job. If it only touches the inner race and the gear, it won't be a wear point as it's all spinning the same.

nice!!. Is that a model a rear end with the quick change center. I am running an "a" rear end, still with the torque tube. Can I use the SPADARO center?

Hey fellas, there is a bloke in New Zealand that makes a quick change that is as quiet as a politician in a whore house. The name is Kiwi Quickchanges. He makes them for 4 bangers and V8's. I talked to him for about 40 minutes a swap meet in my home town and he was very helpful and willing to talk to anyone. His e-mail is antiqueford@xtra.co.nz
