Those are some awesome pictures guys. I only wish I could come up with the time to go this year. Its one hell of a drive from Boston to Kansas though.

I do have a lot of family in that area, I grew up in Carthage MO. During the summer all my car buddies and I would make trips to MoKan a couple of Sundays a month. I'd drive a few guys over in my '54 and we'd watch a buddy race his yellow '57 Chevy. He's still got it and still goes over now and again. He ran 12.74 ET last time he was there.

Thanks for jumpin' in, 30roadster! Fun stuff...Lookin' at all these pix is gettin' to me - luckily, the thrash is on to get ready for March Meet, and the jones will soon be dealt with...
Moose - you gotta get back to your old stompin' grounds - I think MoKan misses you..................

Wow! Thanks Moose - it looks exactly the same! Which figures...

Flamedabone - Have you and 8thgradegenius decided on a "best two out of three" match, or what? And who gets to race the winner??? Me?

Mr. Bone - If I make it out there, I'll drive it from Joplin, and you can keep your car length. If it starts doin' the guardrail dance (and chances are it will), I want to be right beside you. Maybe when the parts fly, something cool will end up going in your window, and you can sell it on e-bay...

    Now THAT is funny.

Really, I hope you make it with either of your cars. I'll let you slide if you have to throw it on a trailer...I just won't be spotting you any carlengths.

Fair enough...At this point, I don't know what I'll be doin' in August, but like I've said earlier, I have this crazy idea about bringing the Morris out there (on the trailer) via the ultimate HAMB relay: work a few days, then move on to the next town - all the way there and back again...Door to door ch***is fabrication, while you wait! Don't know how else I can afford to do it...
Are you gonna run slicks this year (with that new quickie out back)???

Wow, just this morning I read an old race report from 1972 about a match race between Omar Carruthers and Terry Ivey in their funny cars at Mo-Kan. Omar ran a 7.05 at 205mph on that track! HAD to be a hairy ride! :)

Yikes! Here I am, talking smack with Flamedabone and thinking about the prospect of running my 127mph car down that cowpath (don't get me wrong, I LOVE the place!), and these guys were going over 200?! That's humbling.....

Sorry Randman - I only meant it in the most respectful way - I'm a buddist, and you know how we are about cows...
Seriously, I wouldn't change a thing about the place - it's so rare nowdays to find a track that someone hasn't tried to "modernize". And for the record, the first real drag strip I ever saw in person was in Manhattan, Kansas (similar to MoKan) - rode there in my buddys killer black '62 Nova low 11 second street/strip car with slicks and open headers, and he won his cl***. Then we watched Shirley race Big, Grumpy vs Glidden (booked in show), then drove home. MoKan is the only other track I've been to that brings back that vibe for me...I really think it should be a historical landmark or something..........
