I believe the 70-81 Camaro rear ends fit, I have one in my '55 Chevy. Don't know if it is too wide for your application, my '55 has radiused wheelwells so I don't have to worry about tire clearance.
I had a little problem with the rearend in my 56. I replaced it with a 4.10 posi Dana 60 from a Roadrunner. But that was in the early 80's when you could still get one in a junkyard for $350. I would go with a 9" Ford or if you want to keep it all Chevy use a 12 bolt. Get it from something that had leaf springs and same width rearend and you can cut the pads off your old housing and weld them on the new rearend. To make a 9" really strong can be pretty expensive.
A 57 Ford is almost a bolt in ... and looks very much like the 57 Chevrolet rear ... but is way stronger. The wheel bolt pattern is different ... but that can be addressed also. The 57 Ford rear end is also almost 2 inches more narrow ... ( 1 inch per side ) A 67 to 69 Camaro / 68 to 72 Nova rear end is the same width and works good too. But 12 bolts have gotten expensive. The 10 bolt is stronger than the original 57 rear end IMHO ... Back in the day ... rodders used 57 Olds and Pontiac rears ... but they are difficult to get parts for now, compared to the others ...
low buck easy way out is the 71-81 camaro 8.5" 10 bolt, it's a lot stronger than the original 8.2" rear. Or do what I did, find a gonga deal on a slightly used Summers Brothers 9"
