The standard what did ya git done...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by porknbeaner, Apr 23, 2007.

  1. this weekend post.

I looked and didn't find one and I'm just not one to depart from "tradition", well at least not very far.:D

I managed to get the lawn mowed after 2 new blades for the mower that's O/T I know but we got a huge yard here.

On topic I built a seat mount for a disabled friends '59 El Camino, and welded up a shortened 9" Ford for a fellow HAMBer.

Reset the timing on the Pusher for the third time in a week and remembered to pull the dizzy down tight this time (DOH ) its running like a bandit. And although no one would admit this I took time out to grossly exaggerate about how well it runs, well maybe not grossly.:D:D

So what didya git done this weekend? :)

Straightened up a bit in the garage, mainly to find places for all the loot I brought back from NC last weekend...

started working on the Fleetline's new hood...

set up a high-tech temporary shifter for the TH350 in the car so I can pull it in and out of the garage. (Small Vise-Grips on the flat sides of the ****** shifter stud!)

And a buncha O/T house projects.

Finished most of the new floors and rockers on the El Camino.

    I hate Rust..

  5. Managed to get the carb on the lawn mower set right so I got to mow the lawn. Yipee!

Roto-tilled the garden so it's ready to plant.

Car wise, I went to Hot Rod Ch***is Garage Days swap meet-n-greet. Caught up with a few fellow HAMBers. Saw "Backseat Betty" in the flesh, so to speak, and heard her run down the street. A fantastic car to be sure and runs hard. Sorry, no pics yet, as I was shooting "old school" with film and haven't had them processed yet.

While at the swap meet, I bought a AA axle with spindles and drums for my modified project. I know that brake st-up stinks, I'll be switching to something better.

Spent two hours teaching my 8 year old son how to use the sit on mower so I could spend the weekend in the garage finishing off my engine install.

Suddenly begining to see the advantage of having all these children....

Really good to hear the old girl again after 6 months of being engineless, next weekend will see me driving.

Saturday I bought I battery I couldn't really afford to see if THAT would get my '57 Effie fired up 'n back up the driveway (no dice), but had more luck with my girl's project, waking up the '65 'Bird after many of years of sleeping. Just took the right amount of gas, it settled rather quickly into a comfortable idle. Spent some good time with her boy, it was the first car he fired up. Sweet, sweet backyard music.

I'd been searching for the what did you get done thread. I made good progress on my firewall and steering setup. Filled in the holes left by the late model gm booster that I took off and the gaping wound the PO did to install the old steering. I made a bracket/hole/holder for the new steering and got it mocked it. I also made a piece to continue the body line on the firewall thru where the booster was (not shown in pics). I'm no littleman or kiwikev, but I am happy with my learning curve here. I never thought I would find cutting up cardboard templates so rewarding!
    cheers

Spent time poking at rusty spots with a screw driver to see how bad they were.(Hey, I'm short on time here. Damn final exams! ) Pleasantly surprised by what I found. Front bumper is in fixable shape. That's a good thing as the only replacements i've seen are fibergl***.:(

Found a few spots that need work, so next weekend will probably be spent trying to figure out how to patch rusty spots. Never done that before.

Went and picked up a late 70's El camino. Got home and almost instantly traded it for a '53 ford 2dr Hdtp with rebuilt flatty. Have to go pick it up weekend after next. Cleaned up the garage some, built some metal shelves. Brought the hood home for my '49. That's about it.

Wacked off two coils off the front springs on my 51 fleetline, sits less monster truckish now

  17. Finished my notch last weekend. Cut my beautifully welded spring perches off my rear as well as all the brackets so I could strip it down. I also picked up all the metal to make the new brackets for my 4-link. It's time to measure and take the Sawzall to my floorboards.

Here are a couple pics of the notch. I doubt anyone wants to see my bare rear

Well, for the most part, it looks like you guys got quite a bit more than I did. I went to Missouri to pick up a '57 Chevy wagon that turned out to be a complete rustbucket. Check out this thread for the details:

Then Sunday I lucked out and wound up with a complete 9" Ford setup to go under my Dubble A truck project. Best of all, it was free! If I'm lucky, I'll be able to s**** what's left of the truck it came out of to buy a set of cheapo wheels and tires to make it a roller. Check out this link for details on it and some possible free stuff for you all!

I managed to put a hole in my new radiator, and found out that it will cost me 1/2 the cost of a new one to get it repaired. For my contribution to "Earth Day" I added a nice stripe of ATF all the way down my driveway and into the street. But hey, not all is lost... I did get the car home from a friend's house where it has lived for the past 6 months.
