What a FANTASTIC story so far. I'm so happy you got in contact with the original builder/owner, and that he is helping you so much with the truck.
This must be one fantastic rolercoaster ride for you, the last couple of days.

Please keep us informed, and see if you can scan/post some of the old photos/information.

I remember about 15 years ago a guy having a picture of a customized car, looked 50 Buick-ish from what I recall, posted under the gl*** at the local car parts place in Brooklyn, MI. He had a sign, 'anybody know the history on this car?' It looked a bit like the Venus but with more Buick trim.

Reading this thread makes me want to drive up to Brooklyn and copy that picture and get his answer for him in next to no time! This is an unbelievable place!

Next time I get to Europe, I'm gonna see if I can plan a long layover in Amsterdam and go find Rikster! Too dang cool!!

Oh, and go back to quad headlights. They rock!

I just happen to have the privledge of knowing the man that built this truck. Yes, he is still around and as difficult to deal with as ever. He demands quality work and unlike some of his friends, he knows how to deliver the work personally. He aint no arm chair quarterback although he may have slowed down just a bit (havent we all). If you want to get in touch with him to have some custom work done than just emal me and I will be glad to forward it on. He is in Las Vegas and now works there exclusively. There is no job too big or small for this stud muffin. He aint cheap, but you get what you pay for. Oh, and by the way, he has an incredibly beautiful wife.

I am not into customs, My interest has always been the mechanical side of Hot rodding. I've always admired the custom scene and the incredible talent displayed by the craftsmen that have plied their trade over the years. The stories that come out of this are absolutely amazing from the personalities involved to the actual creations that have survived, some under the most trying cir***stances.
Saying this, it's amazing the scope of this site, where you can find an old forgotten picture or relic, post it, and in a matter of minutes sometimes, or days, the history unfolds as if by magic.
Thumbs up to all involved in this latest ADVENTURE, it had me captivated from the first post, and I'm now hooked until the truck is finally redone and being shown again. I hope we will get to witness it's rebirth here on the HAMB, and at least some of us get to see it in person. Just as they didn't know what they would find when they opened King Tut's Tomb you never know what each day will reveal here on the HAMB. thanks, Ryan.

Well I Have to admit this has got to be the cooolest!! thing by far that has ever happened to me :D and cannot stop thinking about the whole thing I have so many Questions to ask Roy but everytime I talk to him my mind goes blank  so ive come to a decision im gonna write down everything I want to ask so I can be prepared :D
next time. His Daughter Michelle just sent me an Email with some pics of the truck at some Shows and in 2 pics Its Red , 1 pic Its a Dark Candy Maroon and the last picture is black/white but looks just like it did in the article Blue with purple highlites also these were all taken at Car Shows and there is Trophys around the truck :D looks cool I cant wait to meet Roy in person he'll be coming by in a couple of months he said he has'nt touched the truck in 40 years so this should be an experiance for both of us :D roy is gonna lead me in the right direction as to how certain things were done like for instance the rear taillight section i thought in the Mag Article there were'nt taillights but he said there was a sheet of clear plexigl*** covering that section that he sprayed red and the background had foil so when
he stepped on the brakes the whole rear section lit up red so now that makes sense to me now because I was like  no taillights its things like this that has me so exited I feel like all this time I needed
gl***es and just got em now everything is starting to look clear :D I
was talking to Shortdog and he says to me "Dude you dont even know how lucky you are to have found the O.G. owner/Builder of this
bad*** custom but actually I do and am so gratefull for all everyone has done to help Also I forgot to give up props to Mr. 97 from New Zealand for posting those phone #s because Doug Gludts info was correct that was the son of thee Upholsterer **** Gludt which gave me the Ultimate clue " That Roy had moved to Reno" so THANKS!
97 you also are the man! anyway I felt that was in order I really wanted to trailer it to back to the beach but was told "No trailered cars" so I did'nt take it oh well next time guys!

It's A Bad*** Truck Fo Sure But The Magazine Article Really Is What Makes It. I'd Probably Go For A Similiar Look Myself. Tribute To The Original Builder Or Something Like That... Feature The Article In Some Way To Tie It To History.
Good Luck With The Build, I'm Sure It Will Be Cool No Matter What You Guys Decide To Do With It.

This is one of the best stories I have read on the HAMB! I can remember drooling over custom cars and trucks as a teen in the late 50's early 60's wishing I had the money and talent to own one. It is great the original owner/builder is still living and you have the benefit of getting first hand knowledge from him. As the saying goes...."PRICELESS". Thanks for sharing your story and keep it coming.

Hey Conrad, Yesterday I responded to you but it didn't seem to come through so I am sending it again. I want to Thank You for being so diligent in trying to find me and to all who responded to your inquiries. I am excited to be reconnected to the truck and look forward to working with you on it. It has been 40 years since I sold the truck and lost track of it after that. Wow what a trip this is.
In the time I owned the truck I repainted it several times to keep it fresh on the show circuit. I am proud to say, this truck won the "Grand Sweepstakes" for the most radical custom at the Portland Roadster Show in 1967. It was a crowd pleaser in its day! This truck has won a number of awards in Spokane WA, Missoula MT, Boise ID and several times in Portland OR. I lived in the Pacific Northwest then so that is where I showed it most. Yes I was connected with founding the World of Wheels Auto Show but it started out as the Lewis Clark Autorama. Those were the days! I sold the circuit to Bob Schoonhoven who is also a well known car enthusiast.
I have been writing a book and there is a chapter about the truck and now Thanks to you I can add a new chapter about the next phase of this trucks history. Awesome... You the Man...
I am really looking forward to working with you on this project and meeting you at the LA Roadster Show in June at Pamona. Roy DeLaney - Las Vegas NV

You Know ive thought about that alot and your right! To me that is one of the coolest parts of this whole thing is these kinda adventures useally take place behind closed doors but in this case it was unraveled in front of the whole world or at least the people who have watched this from the start and the way it all unfolded it couldnt have made for a better story beleve me Im not to proud to say I cried tears of joy many times throughout this whole awesome experiance I own other cars that I was hot about and now all I can think about is
this Truck. But dont get me wrong this is not a bad thing :D this is awesome like Rikster said in an earlier post that I must feel like im on
a Fantastic Rollercoaster ride well hes right and the ride keeps getin Better :D .

O.K. guys Conrad has come in like the ushers at the movie theater with thier red flashlights and wants to put me back to work....I couldn't help it though. I started the thread and didn't (in my wildest dreams) think it would take off in this direction as fast as it did.....Now i am watching Conrad as if he was Jim Carey in the Truman Show...... now i know what Speilberg feels like..:D Anyhow, I also look forward to meeting Mr Roy Dealney at the Fathers Day show as i will be glued to Conrads hip that weekend (You are not getting out of my sight Conrad) I will be ready with camera in hand so don't worry guys. In saying that, I have a few more pics that Conrad would like to share with the HAMB'rs. These are pics that Roys daughter sent to Conrad by e-mail. History at it's best, Check out all the trophys!!!

    Dang Conrad...

You should partner up with Roy-

Let him be half-owner of his truck again! He should be the one to re-do the truck, and if he was part-owner it'd sure make the cost more affordable for you!

If you guys get along (and it sure sounds like you do already) maybe working together toward a common goal would be the best-possible route for this truck to take...! Getting a cool custom like that back under the lead paddle of the original customizer is a rare opportunity, and maybe a partnership would be something for both of you to consider!

Best of luck with it, and congrats on the cool find!

Roy tells me the top left picture was taken when he bought it in 1962 and the second picture was when he chopped the top on it notice it still had corner windows on the cab Roy told me he Deleted the windows because back in those days there was'nt anyone around who cut the corner gl*** therefore being deleted and if im not mistaken the next two pictures were after the front and rear was done at this point I dont think it was sectioned yet but the corner gl*** was deleted The picture with the model A was an early shot when first bought. The model A was another one of Roys Toys infact it is the truck that he put the engine into that was in the 47 truck a 56 plymouth 318 with push ****on torque flight trans my truck still has the push ****ons in it. The two large pictures are when the truck was done and getting loaded up to go to the Portland Roadster Show "NOTICE" the Upholstered cover on the Bed OOOOHHH!! I Like That
The truck was I beleve the Blue Metalic with Purple highlites in this picture Well hope you'all enjoyed the pictures Really cool Do***entation there Thanks Roy!! :D and you too SHORTDOG!! :D

  30. This is one of the reasons I love the HAMB. Stories like this don't come around very often but when they do, oh man , a hole is opened into the past and all who are interested get to take a peek inside! Great story!
