Picked this wagon up yesterday and looking to find out how many were made. Seen a few more doors, but this is the first 2 door. Got a V-8 and push ****on automatic. Looks like one of those Poly motors I've seen here on the H.A.M.B. I'd say it was a barn find but this was outside and a Farmall tractor was in the barn. Go figure!

I love it!! Cruising the internet I see all sorts of cool stuff listed in the Dakota's. I guess like WV you all never toss anything away with the benefit of it not rusting into the ground like here in WV.

    Nice.

I always thought it was odd that the 56 Dodge wagons had the *** end of a 55... The fins never made it onto the wagon.

Got some numbers from the body tag.

    Schedule Body Paint Trim SP
    10 06 15 017 857 175 835 2

Vin # 34997860 Need a little help locating casting numbers. I s****ed the front of the head and deck of block like a Chevy but no luck. Where they at?

By the way The fins are bolt on. All the chrome and stailess was in the back. Even found a 55 Chevy tailight trim ring and lens. A four barrel intake was in the spare well. Bonus!!

I checked my copy of the "Encyclopedia of American Cars" which usually provides good production information. Funny thing thing was that individual production numbers were available for 1955 and 1957, but not 1956!

Anyway, here is what I did find:
The 2 door Suburban Station Wagon was available in several series:
    D62 Coronet I6 engine
    D63-1 Coronet V8
    D63-2 Royal V8

    The V8 engines were:
270 -189 bhp standard in the Coronet V8
315 -218 bhp standard in the Royal
315 -230/260 bhp optional in all

Yeah, the bolt on fins were a weird deal. I dont know why they didn't just use the 56 rear quarters. The 56 quarters were really stylish.

The intake casting number is 1634282

There was also a Dodge truck next to the wagon. Has a bed about 10 foot long.
