Anyone remember these? There was a lot full of '50s cars just east of St Louis, under the freeway. I remember them for years, seemed to disappear around 1990 or so. Anyone have the story on what they were there for?
I'd heard a dealership got "trapped" when they put the interstate through there, find that hard to believe.
They looked complete, maybe 40 or 50 cars there if I remember right, like late '50 vintage.

Sorry, no pics, looked like a bunch of cars parked on blacktop lot is all.

I remember them. Talked about them almost every time I saw them. Never heard what they were there for or where they went.

Before my time but sounds pretty cool. They were probably full of dead bodies and bullet holes if they were sitting in East St.Louis.

Chevy G***er, I just looked at mrchevynut.com and just realized who you are. I am Rich Westcott's son. Very cool story too. Glad to see you on her. I can't wate to see that car.

Hey, I remember those cars quite well also. I was young but they always got my attention. I want to say that it was some kind of radio station broadcasting parking lot. I also remember that they were almost entirely swallowed up by vegetation before they finally disappeared. For those that don't know, the area these cars cars were in was a very well known location for people that wanted to dump a body. And I'm not talking about cars either.

The story on those cars is that there was a train wreck and those cars cars were slightly damaged. They were placed there by a judge till the lawsuits were over. 37 years later the case was resolved and the storage bill was so high (they were on E.St.L city property) the "winner" just let them go. The city ended up taking them to the chrusher. I tried for many years to get some of them, but the city would only let you buy them all,or nothing. ( I did "liberate" some parts before they got chrushed.

I was born in E. St. Louis, raised in Belleville and I also remember seeing those cars.....my Dad always said he was going to find out what the story was and try to get his hands on a few of them. He never did find out, that's pretty interesting. I'll have to call him and bring him up to date, he's in his eighties now....don't know how much memory he has left.

I remember them well. The story I heard was they belonged to a "car nut" (imagine that) that liked Lincolns, which is what they appeared to be from the overp***. I think I was told that he was a major construction contractor.
