I'm building a 49 Chevy Fleetline, the car came with no ***le but has vin # tag that is attached with 2 flat head screws on the driver side upper door pillar, the body code tag on the firewall has rivets. Is this correct ? I want to get this straight before I take it to mvd for inspection.

Yeah, and thats the only place it is. On the driver side A pillar. When I went to the DMV, I had to call a supervisor because the newer cars have the VIN riveted and in 2 places. It took them like 30 mins. searching all over the car, when I told them thats the only place it was! so be prepared to spend a little extra time since it is something they are not used to, it overloads their brains.

I have heard some guys say that they prefer to just use ***le companies to avaoid the h***le at DMV..

  5. Yes - same on mine - cowl tags riveted & on the vin tag, I have found some 1949's & 1950's with phillips head screws & one with straight screw heads and they all looked normal and natural - but - who knows after all the years have gone by.

Mine was actually on with those crazy clutch head screws like are all over the car rather than flatheads or phillips. If you wanna be picky, I'm betting those clutch heads were the original screws used....but yeah....it was screwed on just the same.
