So I was heading to the Carolina Drag Strip, and mid way between Elberton (or Ellenton on something like that) and Aiken, on "Whisky Road" (I forget the hwy number), there's an old junkyard right on the side of the road, in the woods. Everything visible from the road was early '60s and older. What's the story on this yard? Does the dude let people in at all? Is anything for sale? I'd GLADLY make another road trip up there from Atlanta to look around. -Brad
Hey Brad, that's my neck of the woods, was just in Aiken an hour ago. Someone has told me about an old yard over there but I could never find a location. If your directions are even close I have driven all around it. I am about 45 minutes from there and will investigate later this week or next. Were you down for the big drag show this weekend? There is a shorter way to the track than going through Aiken. That is the same track that is going to have a 50th anniversary, nostalgia style gathering in Oct. I couldn't make it but did make it to the local show at the HOOTERS on Sat. I'll P.M. you about the yard!!
What ever happened with the investigation on the location of this place,im in Columbia and wouldnt mind driving donw there to look around.
It looks like I'm coming back up on Saturday for the conclusion of the ORSCA race. Qualifying was done Saturday, but it got winded out on Sunday. I'll most likely stay the night on Saturday, and then head home Sunday--I'd GLADLY throw some tools in the truck and take a junk yard trip! -Brad
Brad, I live right near there but right now I am in the Northeast working. This fall when I am back I can check into it better if no one else has yet. Otherwise, I am VERY interested in knowing what anyone else finds. I know where there is a 32 3 window coupe at someone's business in town. Old guy who has a couple of French flattie blocks and he is SLOWLY restoring the thing. He is understandably low key about it... regards, DJ
Brad, I'll go check on this tomorrow, its been a very busy week!! P.M. me if you are coming down and we can go drink a beer or grab a bite here in Augusta. It's only a 20-30 minute trip from here.
I just found out the race I was going to cover has been postponed until April. BUT, if that yard is open to us, I'll make a trip up there much, mush sooner. Let me know what you find out! I have fantasies of finding a Suburban with seats and window latches, and an old Chrysler with a 354 Poly in it. -Brad
there is a yard between aiken and new ellenton .atomic auto parts ?they would sell a whole car, no parts. this was a couple years ago .lots of s.s. parts lots of rust.good hunting...
