I know that most 1 1/2 didnt have 1/2 ton style beds. Is the cab the same? I know that the front fenders look larger. But is that all? thanks
Cabs on Ford/Chevy/Dodge trucks have forever been the same for a given model year regardless of weight rating. The changes as the trucks got bigger were usually in the front fenders and maybe in the hoods. . In other words, a Ford F-1 cab is identical to an F-8 cab (and so is the hood.) An F-100 is identical to an F-800. A Chevy C-10 has the same cab as a C-60.
Sorry guys. But i was talking about a chevrolet 3100. Really just the sheet metal was what i was wondering about.
I actually had to read that twice to get it... man I'm sleepy. Are the fender mounting points the same? I know the wheel arches are usually larger but can you mount 1/2 ton fenders on the larger cabs?
The cab and doors are the same. The front fenders and grille are different. Mostly the wheel wells are larger. jerry
...you can mount 1/2 ton front tin onto any 47-53 Chev cab. For your info, all Chevs in the 47-53 years sheetmetal is all the same from 1/2 tons up thru and including 1 tons. Bigger trucks than 1 tons got bigger front fenders/flatter hoods/different grille bar spacing, etc.
but u can use the bars to make up a grill that will work in the 1/2ton, but u have to use all of the bars from the 1 1/2ton up trucks. the 1 1/2ton grill bars are also taller then the 1/2 ton ones. but u can the bars & mount them to the 1/2ton brackets & unless u really have an eye for these grill i doubt u could see the difference at a glance. i had a 1 1/2ton grill & needed one for my project & i swapped the bars out. lots of drilling & riveting to take it apart & back together but it's worth it if u can't find a good 1/2ton grill...joe
i been wanting to see a 1 1/2 ton sheet metal dumped on the ground w/really big wheels. should fill up the wheel wells and look ok.
So your telling me that if you sat a 1/2 ton cab beside a 1 1/2 ton cab there would be no difference...
you are correct........... they are same. the only difference you may run into is if you get an early cab(47 1/2 & 48 i believe), there is only one rear mount instead of two like on the later ones... here's a site that will tell you basicly everything that is different between the AD trucks ..............joe
I've had them both before, and could tell absolutely no cab difference between the two. I do have a 1952 F4 right now that I've tried twice to get rid of on e-bay, but can't seem to be able to. I can take measurements of the cab, fenders, and hood if anyone needs them to compare with. Or, someone can just buy the damn thing so I'll be rid of it.
I just picked up a 51 last week, where do I sign up for the club? Was going to "rat rod" it till I saw the "bobber" thread last week. Anyone know if fender patch panels are made? looked but haven't seen anything, Thanks. (the rat-bobber was just a joke, in case some are still hung over.)
I haven't found any place that sells fender patch panels for 48-54 Chevy trucks. They all start at 55 2nd series and up.
