What products are good for cleaning and protecting convertible tops? Any recommendations? Anything I should definately NOT use?
Check some Jeep suppliers for soft-top specific stuff. For home brew, I've used Simple Green to get Ga red clay out of jeep tops and upolstery with good results.
I've been told to use mild dish soap and a soft brush. I would think Simple Green would be a mild soap as well.

If all else fails, good 'ol bleach works well for abused white tops. Just don't do it to often or let it sit on the top for very long because it will begin to rot the threads.

Back when I always used Comet and a good stiff scrub brush. I always had the whitest top around. A friend who worked in an upholstery/top shop was always telling me I was shortening the life of the top and one time instead of shrugging it off I asked him how much difference in the life of the top he figured it would make. His answer- 1 year. Needless to say I kept scrubbing it with comet. I hate white tops that are gray
