hi all this is my first actual post on the HAMB, other than the intro one, so hello to everyone who didnt catch that. anyway, i recently went to the Rick Shaws hot rod club show and fell in love with this little rod. i was wondering if anybody knew anything about it, or who owns it? this was in newcastle, australia by the way. id really be interested in building something like this to learn some skills and tricks before i tackle a really serious build. if anyone has any dos/donts or tips for me, it would be MUCH appreciated. cheers!
Hey muddy, welcome to the HAMB. Lot's to learn here and good folks too. You've got some great rodders down under too. Wow, covering a build-up in one thread is damn near impossible because there's so much to cover. Here's a tip, and I don't mean this in a snide way either: The search function is your friend. Sometimes it's a little bothersome, but it usually delivers. Search for "RPU" and you'll find dozens of threads about this kind of car. They may not be specific to this one, but the general ideas will start to shine through. Start reading the threads you find and you'll start to expand your knowledge base. Read, read, read. Then read some more. The HAMB is one of the best knowledge bases about traditional (and not so traditional) rodding I've ever seen. The experienced guys that hangs out here are brilliant. If you can find some guys with similar interests in your area, hang out with them. Reading about stuff is good but getting to see in 3-D how things work is invaluable. Start wrenching any chance you get. Doing is even better than watching. Help someone out with their ride, they'll appreciate it and you'll get some experience. Hope this helps.
Hello, and welcome! I just want to add that the "tech archive" part of the hamb is a very big source of information, you can find lots of answers to your questions there!
haha i must have worded that post wrong. thanks for the tips on the tech archive and stuff though, ive been going through all that stuff for a few weeks now, AWESOME stuff. RPU eh? thats a good start. hopefully i dont make an **** of myself, but have i correctly identified that as a T? i decided that was the case because i cant see any of the frame horns that are on the model As. does anyone know anything about this Smiths Kustoms mob? that being said, does anybody know about any shops around newcastle that do any rod work, as id LOVE to see if i could get a job there doing SOMETHING, sweeping up, collecting lunches, whatever haha!
Muddy, you've made the most important step, you are asking questions.Oldcarmike said it all, lots of info here, some might give others a hard time, but it's all good fun.The stupid question,is the one you don't ask.Going to events, offering to help out, will certainly make you friends and contacts.Great looking roadster pickup you've been intrigued by,a good candidate for a 1rst project.Welcome to the HAMB.
Hey muddy, its andrew from smithskustoms, This is my little t roadster pickup. give us a call some time & we can catch up 0423496462
Welcome to the HAMB! Oldcarmike.... can you make a 3 letter search here? I can't. Tell me the secret, please. Andrew... smart lookin' little ride. Muddy.... if you can't either, go to google and type the following: rpu site:jalopyjournal.com Google will search the HAMB for you and you'll get LOTS and I mean LOTS of hits. If you are thinking about building from scratch (or close to it) make sure you search for posts by Brian Angus. I'm building a '30 A pickup and his posts have helped me a lot. There are MANY, MANY others here with just as good info too. A lot of their names and builds are mentioned in some of the posts you'll read from/about Brian.
