Hi Guys Has anyone exported a car out of Canada to any other place then the US. I need to know where I can find relevant information on bringing some cars down here to Australia. Thanks. Pete
Are you looking for shipping information or customs info? The customs is the issue at your end as you are importing into your country. You simply buy it here and take it.
If you are talking port of shipping, the area where your cars are located would determine which port, east or west, would be the wise choice as shipping from the prairies east or west can get pricey. I don't have any experience with sending cars out of the country, but have shipped east and west from the prairies as that is where I am situated. Pat.
Most of the container traffic, between Canada and the South Pacific,is through the port of Vancouver. The best (rust free)cars are in the central provinces and west, due to less salt on roads during winter.Depending if you buy privately or from a business, you may have to pay Goods and Services Tax(7%Info on how to get a refund or avoid paying this is available online at Canada Revenue Agency.Canada Customs will probably require,a bill of sale and possibly registration before export clearance(this is to combat shipping stolen cars overseas).Other than that the major hurdle is at your end, with Australian customs.Fordnutz, would be a great contact for vintage iron at goldenoldiesvintagetin,i know many people who have dealt with them,VERY REPUTABLE BUSINESS.
Thanks Guys. I have it sorted out at this end (Australia) but was worried about clearing customs etc at your end. I appreciate the input.
Hi re import into Aust, i did so several years ago, a 40 footer out of vancouver ... the big thing is to have all purchase papers in order and prepare a manifest well before loading the box... and stick to it. your aust shipping agent needs to be sent a copy before your container even hits the outgoing port so that they can convey with the export customs authority and do the ***le clearence searches. and release paperwork.. my box took 6 weeks vancouver to bris via asia...make sure you take out insurance on the goods being sent as there is a huge break and enter racket on the ports of asia ,,, lots of stuff coming to oz does mot make it here. take good pics and have them ready for insurance purposes if required. also when your box lands in oz be prepared to unload as soon as you receive the phone call from your import broker as the docks will charge a rate per day to store....and have it empty and gone off the docks before the end of the day. also varying ages of vehicles incur different taxes/ duties ,,,research and be prepared with the $$$ as it will hold up the whole release system more $$$ again. my experience was not without worries , but a great learning experience as well. regards bob
X38,lots of good well preserved early iron in Canada. The government was too cheap to salt roads in central and western provinces,(thankfully)
I was eyeballing a car near Ottawa. Is it a big deal to get that across the border for transport to here?
