Here's a few northern Wi junkyard pictures I took last week on the way home from a fishing trip. Careful- a couple will bring tears to the eye... Keith
Nice pics, I'm surprized that in Wisconsin they are not totally rusted away. But they are some nice finds.
Nice pictures. It all depends where in Wisconsin you are for the car conditions. If you're in a area where they use salt in winter then the cars are pretty bad like my area but if you're in a area where they use just sand then the cars are generally a lot better. Also helps if they are on high and dry grounds. Steve
Everything in there is for sale. Most of the old stuff is in the back 40. It's all late model up front. I've been going there for years and have bought a lot of small parts. There are a LOT fewer of the old cars now though. The guy told me he has been crushing a lot lately and selling for s**** because of the high s**** prices now. Bummer.
Hey 3034, Where is the yard located? I'm not far from you - I'm in New Richmond, but I'm originally from the Rice Lake area. I get back to the "old country" every now and then and this yard would make a great Saturday crawl. Next time you are there, tell the owner that if he wants to crush stuff, he should start with the new stuff first. The old stuff is worth more as parts than it is as s**** IMHO. Later, Thor
I'd love to take a walk through there, too, before he crushes all the good stuff. Van's in Waupun has already crushed just about everything worthwhile.
Nice find. The cab's are realy cool, never loose w/ a delivery. With luck some guy's will snag the old stuff.
I stopped into that yard in late November to scope things out. Lots of new stuff in front. Fun to see the old stuff in the back. I am sure it is all for sale.
Back in the late 80's, my dad and I went on a yard run through the outlying Green Bay area looking for the yards he used in the late 50's. Ended up in one (sadly, I don't remember where it was or the name) that had loads of 50's stuff just melting into the ground. Whole Mopars, Chev's, Fords with most parts still on them, but nearly useless. Just sad...not to mention half a dozen 49-51 Mercs with trees through them. Made me wanna cry....well, maybe I did, just a bit.
Unfortunately...the price of s**** metal is currently high, so a lot of yards are "cashing in" and crushing out stuff that's been around for decades. If only the junk dealers had the wisdom to hold out for the real money that some of this stuff will bring in the future.
Bad part is, a lot of that stuff has been around for so long because they've been asking to much for it. Now, it's junk, and they're still asking to much. Nobody wants it, so they get pissed and crush it all. I think we all thought these yards would be around forever. Unfortunately, the price of steel is high, and the owners are old, so the crushing/cashing out. Fortunately, its mostly really rusty 2 doors, undesireable 4 doors and big trucks that are bitting the dust in most of these places. Not Deuce coupes and 57 chevy converts.
