    Guys,

Although I've been on this forum for several months and met some of you at MoKan last fall, I'm still confused when I try to connect the car's with a persons name. I'm terrible with names. Maybe I'm getting senile in my old age.

Would you guys mind letting me (and others) know who's connected to which car already built, or being built. Also a little background info from everyone would be great.

I spend my waking hours at a local machine shop that specializes in high performance engines. I also get the privelage of running the dyno room and tuning the engines. Twin turbo'd 434 SBC to 4 cylinder Pinto engines for the local roundy-round guys. Now if it gets any better for a gearhead like myself I don't know what it would be.

    Dick Sappington (Old6rodder)

60, not retired nor will I voluntarily (I figure I'll have to dig my own damn grave if I want it done right). 5 years in aerospace components, 37 years (& counting) designing ceramic products and tooling. Hoosier, been a SoCal'er since '55. Service brat.

Into low buck racing classes (H/Prod) since '58 when I started hanging around Riverside (at 12). Arcadia T-Timers and drag racing (N/Stock) in high school. Service '66-'68 and some years puttin' after that. Predilections for in-line six tin, boxer and upright twin putts. I build what I roll & putt, strictly.
Out of racing since the service (really hated losing Jimmy Clark, he'd have been the next Moss), 'til I got the HA/GR "bug" that is. That truly nailed my ol' low buck, home brew, "barn job" way of doing it, so here I am.

Call for dates daytime only, hang up if a woman answers.

    Hi all,

    112 Rapid Rabbit
    Wild Hare Racing
    Tom Petry (64 DODGE 440)
    Montclair, CA

Age 61 Self employed Aircraft Mechanic, mainly work on vintage tube, wood and fabric taildraggers and old stuff (A&P with I.A.), before that from high school til '89 worked as a machinist, (mostly tool & die work through the '80s.
First drag car was a '53 Ford K Gasser three of us built and ran at San Gabriel in '62. Rode an E Modified 250 Suzuki in '69 at Irwindale an Lyons and ran most any street cars that I had at Irwindale in the '60s.

Arcadia T-Timer and hot rodder from before i got my license in '62, played with '50 Chevy 6s and flathead Fords, but always had a soft spot for Mopars.

Been away from drag racing til I got my current street toy, '64 Polara with a 440 about six years back, and got the itch bad. Plans for the '64 are to morph it into a '60s vintage match racer for the street.

Known Old6rodder since the high school days and kept in touch and he has infected me with the HA/GR bug that is currently in the planning and part collecting phase. Rapid Rabbit will be Mopar flathead 6 powered, conventional "Bug" style, fun on a budget.

WOW, what a fantastic group....thanks guys for the feedback. It looks like we are a diverse bunch with at least one common trait; we all have a long and deep love of mechanical things powered by internal combustion engines. Kind of a sickness isn't it! Sometimes I wish I'd taken up knitting or ceramics.

Don't worry about the years, it's about the desire.

    Growing older is mandatory.......

    Growing up isn't. :)

    Bubba,

I read your article about your trip to Bonneville. Well written and very interesting. I've been wanting to go to the salt flats for years and keep putting it off. It looks like you guys had a great time.

Car was basically done pretty quick. Then the small stuff started ! Intake gaskets leak, carb issues and some safety items to handle.
Had to machine some non avaliable parts etc.
Should be doing some burnoputs maybe this week.???
    I hope......:)

    Hi all,
I'm Glenn Meyers. I'll be 57 this year. I'm a Computer Systems Analyst for OPW (we make the nozzles and hardware for gas stations.) I've been away from racing for a zillion years it seems. Last ran a '65 Olds 442 in southern Cal in the 70's.

Our car is Merc flatty powered. Its still under construction.

The build is a team effort from the Scroungers Car Club.
The members working on the car include Jim Leis (Blown49), Jim Brinkley (Crossthreads), Tim ebbons (Redneck Smooth), Steve Stewert(RebStew187), Mac Van Pelt(fortyfordguy), John Baily (JohnB), Jonathon Riggs(46underconstruction), Bill Tate(1/2done) and several others.
Building a car by committee has its moments, trust me! The cool thing is that we are all learning and all having a good time and the chair throwing has been minimal!

Pending agreement on a re-design, we will be ready for Indy in June.

    Glenn

You know Joe that sounds like a good idea. Meet everybody at the track.. Since we all should have our cars done this year, Why don't we pick some "CENTRAL" track and have a get together. We could invite the Aussie guys. Maybe a couple of them could pool together and make the trip. That would be so cool......

I know of a track that's almost smack dab in the middle of the United States. It's called MO-KAN Dragway. North of Joplin, Missouri. We could meet there this August.
