I have been wanting to see a picture of that motor where it is not ugly. I thing that rear end came with airbags, and the Mark VIII got a mod motor earlier than other Fords.
Yes the Lincoln Town Car was first in 1991, followed by Mercury Grand Marquis and Ford Crown Victoria in 1992, Thunderbird in 1995, Mustang in 1996.This information from Standard catalog of V8 ENGINES by John Gunnell Harry
Ok, those motors look good. Are you going to use the whole Lincoln drivetrain? I have a Mark VIII IRS in my '28.
Arrowhead on the NTBA site did a blown mod motor and electric tranny in his T Bucket that should interest you. He fabbed the blower adapter to the injection intake base, and did all the injection and electric tranny stuff. Hes got good info leads to follow. He appears to be a man for all seasons, a junk yard techie, ridin a T... Nice application, looks hemi-like.. Interesting--all these "high tech" powertrains are getting available as low buck, junk yard donors to them what aint 'skeered'. Theres alot of EFI stuff now that can meet the DMV definition as 'antique'. Time flies, and the bird is on the wing.Good on ya..PA
1994 was the first year of the Mark VIII and the first year of the DOHC 32V Modular V8 engine. 1993 was still the Mark VII and the last year of the 5.0/302 for that car series. The first pic in post #4 is a SOHC 4.6 and it appears to be configured for a Mustang GT. EDIT: Wow I can't read my own reference material... Mark III's started in 1993 with the 4.6 DOHC. '92 was the last year of the 5.0.
Keep us posted on how it goes. I have a wrecked, low mile 95 Mark 8. I'm going to put the drivetrain in an early model. I'd love to see a tech thread on the swap. There's a guy near me who did this to a deuce. He fabbed and hid some stuff, and polished the entire aluminum engine. The thing looks wicked as hell, quick too. For those not used to these engines, this is the 4 cam, 4 valve per cylinder like the ones in the Cobra, not the 2 cam in the Mustangs and Crown Vics. It looks like a Boss 429 semi-hemi.
yep air bags all around......as far a ugly... when those valve covers are chromed and sticking out where those side curtains used to be ...i think they will look great ..sure fills up an engine bay.
Ford Racing used to have a stand alone engine harness for the Modular V8's, but seem to have discontinued them. I would imagine that some aftermarket place still carries them. It'll make your wiring a lot easier than robbing all the wiring out of that Mark VIII, and splicing together everything that you need. AND, FYI, the 4 cam in the Lincoln Mark VIII's is NOT the same engine as the Mustang Cobras. Mostly the same parts, but all Cobra engines are hand assembled, and use Cobra-specific parts. They will interchange, to the best of my knowledge.
Imperial collection at Vegas has one of finest 55 Packards I have ever seen...almost worth the trip, Hmmm that 4 million dollar 32 Maybach Roadster isn't too shabby either. Your right certainly not the Cobra, the 280 hp will be just fine stock, will go zoomies to a cutout and then drop it under the frame and out the back.should sound nice ...with the chip should rev over 7 G's ...harness won't be a problem ...
Incidentally, Ford went back to a cast iron block when they dropped the supercharger on the Cobras in late 2002 for the 2003 models. The aluminum block couldn't handle to extra power.
Figures, I was in Vegas last May, and didn't do anything but tear apart a '56 Packard 400 so I can have parts from my car... Also, there's a guy that lives in the North side that has a '56 Packard Executive HT with a dual quad 374, 4 speed T-10 that's shifted by air and uses the original pushbutton shifter for the auto! It's a sweet ass ride.
Yep front to back, get this even has aluminum drive shaft. would really like to see a pic of ur 28....and how did it fit traditional frame dimensions? We haven't mocked this up yet ...were planning a wood mock.
Thanks...your right ...where can u get a complete drive train aluminum drive shaft, posi, disc brakes front and rear...for a 1000 bucks. and only 400 or so lbs. on the front suspension. was looking at either my 429 cj or a flattie ...but the cost shitcanned the flathead program, and the weight nixed the BB.
Thanks for the encouragement... Didnt call these cars the hot rod Lincolns for nothing... with a little tuneup high 14'a were easy for that 4000 lbs sled... If you have a web site for that guy near you I'd appreciate it..
Fabbing an intake for one of those shouldn't be too hard, the intake ports are horizontal with the crankshaft, so it's all flat. You could buy a factory Ford intake for one, and save yourself the fabricating, but it's $659.22 list, and I don't think it'll fit the earlier "non-power improved" heads. The intake ports are larger on the newer heads.
Sounds like an interesting guy ....and your right chrome those valve covers and it will take a second look to determine its not a hemi. Just may journalize this build... Thanks again.
I didn't use traditional frame, I put together a 2x4 frame and widened the car 3". The Lincoln rear suspension is built on a cradle that allows it to be removed as an assembly (maybe w/o the upper bag and shock mounts, I forget now) I chopped it up a bit and tried to use Monte Carlo coils instead of bags, but that sucked. I have coil overs that I'm working on putting in now. I'm trying to hold myself back from polishing the AL rear lower control arms and spindels.
Follow this link for a great Ford Modular engine controller. http://www.msdignition.com/2006/06-20.htm
OK thought ....I'd post anyway ...Almost a shame to use it ...but it dies for a better cause..... http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k179/mustbnuts/PICT0046.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k179/mustbnuts/PICT0048.jpg
