I met this guy via craigslist, bought some mirrors for my 58 wagon from him. He said he had some other car stuff in another storage area. I met him there today, not much car stuff, but this pedal car was kinda cool.

Its missing the rear axle with the tires and chain sprocket. He is asking 350 bucks, and I have no idea if thats a good price or not. Any of you pedal car guys have any input? I think when my granddaughter outgrows her self propelled car the pedal car would be a cool step up for her.

Well I like it cause its old. She already has a new pusher type car. I have no idea what brand it is, are you saying its a Garton? (I will Google that). He tried to tell me it was a very limited run, a few hundred or less. Did you want me to ask him about the chicken trays? Thanks for the info so far.

They are re-poping most of that stuff, seems a bit high for an incomplete car,and if its really collectable, you probably dont want any kids in it.

Well as usual the HAMB comes through. For those of you that are curious I will post the history of this car. Everything is available for it reproduction. Personally I think its way overpriced now that Ive done the research. (Thanks to you guys)

A popular chain driven pedal car of the 1950's and one of Garton's best sellers, was the Hot Rod Racer. In 1953, the first Hot Rod had orange paint, with black hot rod and side pipe graphics, and large artillery wheels. This version remained unchanged until 1956.
A color modification made the Hot Rod bright yellow with red graphics through 1960. The only other change Garton made during this time was the addition of a windshield in 1958. In the early 1960's, the Hot Rod maintained its same racy style with only a graphics rearrangement for the 1960-1962 models.
Finally, a major color change made the 1963 Hot Rod bright blue. New checkered flag and race car graphics made this version very popular. It was on this 1963 Racer that Garton offered a one year only safety lap belt. Realistic side pipes and a hood ornament were new accessories on the otherwise unchanged 1964 Hot Rod. Major changes on the 1965 model included a roll bar and noise maker, which proved to be problematic and were removed for the last year of production in 1966.
Garton also produced basic pedal cars with this body style, including a pedal-driven Fire Chief with bell, and Police Car with a siren, spotlight and antenna.
These cars were offered with different graphics painted on the sides.
