I think I'm done goin there. Just got home and every year seems worse than the last. Food is gettin more expensive, and I'm tired of seeing lawn mowers for sale.
I scored big time there today .. "Got a new sink, lawn edger and craftman ridermower" ! ... Can't wait to next year to bring them back to re-sell Brother ..I feel your pain same old **** each year!!
hahaha thats funny i just got home and made a lot of cash this sat only and im not even going sun im out of stuff to sell .......thier were some good deals i picked up a sbc dual quad intake polished 75.00 and also seen a chrome strait axel set up with shocks hubs pretty much complete for 200.00 .....but you right lots of lawn mowers and bike's ....
You can thank eBay for the lack of "quality merchandise" at the swap meets. I think most of the vendors save their good stuff for eBay and also buy up the stuff that does show up early in the day, to sell later on eBay.
yeah rain friday but good deals and stuff. i sold a few things, people just dont want to pay at that place. Near the end of the day sat night, some guy sells his dirt bike takes it out for a last horrah. Does 65 mph aorund a tight turn and jack nifes the bike, endos it, flies like 50 feet and lands on his face. no helmet nothing, medics took like 35 mins. I doubt he ll make it. The guy really shouldnt have been doing that and i didnt see RWP enforcing these guys and taking the bikes away this year. I feel bad for him, his family, friends and hope he is ok. But RWP will either stop the meet or get sued, who knows. Last year some one lite a dumpster on fire, drove a car in to that lake with no one in it. ITs stupid really. THe guys on the dirt bikes whipping by is rediculous. What happens when they hit a kid or an adult? its just not a good situation at this place any more....
That Raceway Park swap has ****ed for years. Horrible traffic on the two lane road on the way in if you ain't there real early, and tons of **** priced like it was solid gold. If you really need parts hit one of the Carlisle Pa. shows. Nobodys giving anything away but it still feels like kind of a working mans show with some decent deals if you're patient.
You may not have to worry about it much longer. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=178169&highlight=englishtown
Ya I usually head out to Carlisle, if I need something. I usually go to Englishtown regardless because its so close. But yesterday I couldn't even find anything that was decent. There was one guy who had a bunch of 49-51 Merc stuff. 2dr. doors, 2dr. roof, 51 dash, 50 tailights, and a showbox rear window. Nothing that I really needed but that was the only thing that really sparked my interest.
Really, did it rain there Friday? Got there at 7:!5, and by 9:30, my buddy and I were back in my truck with the heater blasting on high, trying to dry off. We went back at it around 10:00, and luckily the rain stopped for a couple hours and I managed to salvage the trip (450 mile round) and find some junk. The best thing I brought home happened to be the cheapest as well---a Hurst short throw shifter with adjustable shift stops for the S-10 T-5 I picked up for future rod use. All the seller knew was that it wouldn't fit his Mustang, so he sold it to me for a whopping $5.00. I also scored an early '60s Edelbrock C4B intake for $30.00; just the thing for a 283 or 327. You're right about the traffic--I've found that if I'm not heading out of the parking lot by 3:00 pm, I'm in for a lot of potential road rage type driving.
funny i always find stuff at e-town pick up a complete mark -4 ac uint for 70 bucks set of 51 ford skirks for 50 but e-bay has killed all the swap meets carlise was a waste of time for me this year 2 days walking for junk and toys i hope rineback is better
i went friday, it ****ed as usual, its been at least 10 years since that junk meet was anygood. i saw one thing that i wanted but did not come home with, the 63 buick 215 v8. would be nice for my es***.
The Napp family ( owners ) of E town have said recently that the track is NOT for sale and that they are sick of all the rumors. It's on the drag forums a lot recently
Any flea market is only as good as the parts you find there. I actually like being able to ride a bike in the flea market. I get a sore *** but the rest of the body fairs much better. I'm able to walk the next day anyway. I don't find much anymore, but that is everywhere I go.
I don't go to Englishtown. I went once, learned my lesson, and took advice from others. I spent Saturday at the AMCA Oley swap meet. Hundreds of old motorcycles. And I mean OLD (my '69 for sale was a late-model). Check out some photos over at Jockey Journal, but photos don't do the show justice: http://www.jockeyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16904
That's right. I've been hitting swap meets for close to 30 years, and the days of endless piles of flathead/stovebolt/early OHV speed equipment at bargain prices went the same way as $1.50/gallon gas. You've really got to get out there and scour if you want to find anything of interest, and if you're going to show up on Sunday, don't plan on anything but a long walk and some overpriced food. It's no different than a sale at a clothing store--don't show up on the last day and expect to find something nice in your size.
I was there all weekend, but I didn't see what happened with that dude on the bike, what's that story? Musta been on the other side of the track. Anyway, I didn't buy much (I currently don't need much) but still found some good krap. My scores for the weekend: motorsickle jack, $30 Griffin aluminum radiator for my Barracuda, $45 straight-axle setup, complete with steering, looks like it's off a Dodge A-100, FREE (Sunday scavengin's!) 3 milk crates full of miscellaneous old taillights and gl*** lenses, $15 decent pair of BLC headlights, $10 pair of Cal Custom finned aluminum SB Mopar valve covers, $15

One thing for sure - there was a ton of construction equipment there and I doubt it fell off any trucks (as Tony Saprano would say)..... I left at 3:30 and it took an hour to get to the NJ Turnpike - I don't think there's any need to ever go back unless at some point I buy a Chevy. ^^^^^ Sums up my experience. I think half on the lawnmowers and weed wackers used to belong to the landscape company I work for.
