I recently managed to buy an Italmechanica supercharger for my 4 cylinder vintage race MG TC a couple of weeks ago. I've seen the blowers mentioned here and remember reading a link about them (or the S.Co.T.) in which someone said they had some information on rebuilding them. I've searched and searched the archives but haven't been able to find that link again so....if anyone has any info on these would they please share it with me? Also, need info on a Solex 35 carburetor if that's available also. Thanks
I don't have a link for you, but I do know there was a very informative article in Rodder's Journal recently. Back issues should still be available since it wasn't that long ago. You might also want to contact the guys at H&H, since they are making a repop SCoT blower, so I'm sure they're pretty familiar with them. And they probably have replacement parts too.
What ya doing with a Solex carb. Haven't played with one of those in a while. Gonna need more than a few of those to feed a 4 banger with a SCoT.
Thanks, I'll see if I can find that issue. Someone had posted an article here from an early hot rod magazine too...I read that but it was more about how well it did it's job, not on rebuilding or setting one up.
HAHAHAHA, thats funny, I thought you were talking about a Velo-Solex carb. Its a motor bike that gets 200MPG!! http://www.solexus.com/home.htm That carb throat is about the diameter of a dime, thus needing more than few to feed a SCoT fed 4 banger
Make sure the crank is a good one . Those xpag motors didnt take the extra power that well. I can remember quite a few "T series" guys wrestling with crankshaft issues over the years.
Thanks Larry...this crank is one of the later cranks from a TF. If I manage to break it I've still got one more spare. After that it'll be a new billet crank from Phoenix or some other mfr. I've run a Marshall on another TC for about 2 years now but keep the boost down to around 4 lbs. Gets me moving in traffic a little better but doesn't seem to be straining the engine much at all.
Here is one link, but there were several discussions over the years. The article was in the April 76 Street Rodder and I made copies for several guys. I would have to find the magazine to scan the article before I could send it out again. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27948&page=2
I have a friend that used to work at Gene Mooneyham's blower shop and I distinctly remember him telling me that they used to work on and repair the old S.Co. T. blowers. He commented that they were really very bad as blowers go, but what the heck that is what was available back then. Anyway, with the p***ing of Gene and the sale of his shop to others I don't know if the shop still services them, but you could try. Sorry, I don't have any phone numbers. Anyone???
I have a customer that just scored a new flathead Italmechanica that has never been run. It's complete and he wants it to have a new home so he can get on with his deuce roadster. Anyone willing to step up, I can put you in touch with him. It ain't gonna be cheap.
there were two variations of the S.Co.T. blowers; I forget which one came first., but when the first batch went cannibal a second company stepped in (Italmeccanica? - don't quote me) and reworked the unit while improving quality. The second batch of units was *supposedly* better. If I recall right - it was something about bearing lubrication along with dimensional tolerance issues...
22 Track - if you can find the article I would really appreciate it. I read that link you sent (wonder how I missed it with all the searches I've done) and sure wish I could have found one for $266. This one, although complete, was closer to $3100.
Check out H&H Flatheads - http://www.flatheads-forever.com/home/. They sell the re-incarnated s.co.t. and have some info.
