I think most know i'm building a 60's style deuce. Lime green flake, Radirs/cheaters and Pontiac power. The frame is a titanium looking color. So, the 2 choices for my motor are cast grey or the prettier of the 2 Pontiac blues. I know the blue doesn't match anything, but.........
well if the car is lime green flake, I think the engine needs to be white, maybe a ivory type white not just starch white.
What color is your firewall? If your firewall is body color, I would go with a white engine. No, really. White engine on a lime green body/firewall. OOORR, a green body, white firewall and black mill with LOTS of chrome. But..I'm real bad color blind, so what the hell do I know... -Abone.
It's much darker, but not to where it appears black at a glance. I really like the metallic grey i found, and i'm leaning towards it way more than the blue. Again, for some of the other people, it's between the TWO mentioned colors ONLY for many reasons
I'm not kidding about the blue. Blue is bad luck for a hot rod motor. DEFINATELY go with the grey. Got any new pics?? -Abone.
Dark blue (from what I read) and a lime green color will not work well from what I see in my foggy brain...I'd vote for the other route.
Grey it is(it's a really nice shade and metallic). I put a few pics of progress on my other thread. Chassis/chrome/brakes plumbed. Have you seen it?
Different shade of gray like you said would look sweet and better than blue in my opinion and i dig blue engines even if they are bad luck.
OK, for you guys stuck on white? Not gonna happen. I drive the shit out of my cars, and white ONLY looks good on the day it's sprayed and all's perfect. When it's dirty or discolored (very soon) it looks like shit. If it was a trailer queen, i'd go white. I'm looking for something that's gonna go the distance looking good. Drips, heat, dirt, etc
I love the Pontiac blue, but maybe they're right about it not matching. Dark grey should hide the crud very well.
I'm between coats (and beers) as i write this. It looks great. Aervoe has the best cast-grey i've seen. Great shade, metallic lookin, and a semi-gloss finish (looks better than flat for what i'm doing)
off topic kind of, but do you have to use engine enamel for your engine block and heads, or could you get away with using a hok paint or something nice
Looks great Groucho! fatty- you can use the same paint you use on your body. It may discolor a bit around the exhaust ports and such, but in my experience most paint will eventually.
I like the cast grey a hell of a lot better than any blue. The cg looks better with your valve covers and other chrome. By the way, did you do the jewel work on the valve covers? They look like EELCO's but whatever, they look good. I've seen an all blue engine and after it got a little dirty, it really looked like crap. Seems like the black color of finger prints, dirt, and grease tend to go better with the cg than the blue. I can't even imagine how bad it would look with a white engine like a fat lady in her swim suit at the beach. ..ad nauseum.
BUMP! Not worth a new thread... My new engine is coming along, about ready to paint it. I have no idea what color my truck will eventually be, and I have 3-4 cans of black engine enamel, so I'm thinking why not? So, why not? Hard to spot oil leaks for one thing. I have in the past used florescent dye in the oil and a black light to find leaks. Any other reason?
Black makes things disappear. If you want the engine to stand out, paint it a lighter color. If you want it to disappear, black is good.
