Wow... everything seems to be improved. Does it even have better cracks too? Serious - That thing looks pretty neat. Do you know what Ford stuff fits it and what doesn't?
Also talked with him at the Grand National Roadster Show in Jan., and might be running one of our New SCoT Blowers on it with injection vs carbs.
Hey FlatDog . . . what are you up to? Looks like you're having some fun with the flathead crowd! I took about a 5 second look at it and it is definitely a MCF creation. He has a real "interesting" way of putting the liners in -- a somewhat strange way of doing it. I know he's trying to "pull" the deck and the bottom together with the threaded approach - will be interesting to see if it works and if the block has enough beef and structural strength to take much horsepower. I'm curious as hell as to if the liners will move, if it will hold water for long, etc.. I'd like to WATCH the guy that ports the **** out of it, puts a big .500 cam in it, puts about 15 lbs boost to it and sees what some big horsepower does? As long as I'm not paying the bill - would be fun to see. The only problem is that while it is way cool - none of the Bonneville or dry lakes folks will probably ever sanction it. I think I'll stick with Henry's originals -- they're still plenty fun to build, can still find good blocks for a few hundred $$$ and nobdy has an edge (unless you're Ron Main!). Take er' easy . . . let me know how you do at the drags! Dale
No, the only problem is they're not for sale. Are they? I want to know where to buy and how much to pay.
Hello Flatdog! I havent really run the dragster yet, just fired it up last year! The Fathead was a bit standard, 276 cid with a 433 cam. I still wait for parts for the blower setup. I will try to run it like that, this year, then bild a new engine next year? Please post some pictures of your dragster Taildragger&fenderless
Um dudes if it were'nt for the aftermarket the sbc would have quit at 165 hp. Everywhere you look there are aluminium knockoff heads for sbc's and most other v8's for that matter. Why not let the Flathead genisis continue. Yeah I'll still be mess'in with old iron but some will certainly be able to push the envelope. The fact is most of the cylinder head is in the block on a Flatty and it will simply take a step like this to approach 300 naturally aspirated hp consistently. Shame on Ford Motor Company for ignoring the opportunity of either helping Kirby with this or coming up with their own version. If they could do a long block for between 5- 6 K they'll sell more than you think. Remember there are Flathead fanatics tinkering not only in North America but Australia, Europe and South America as well. Probably a bunch in Asia too. I'll bet the high end guys will take to this engine.
Sorry to inform you,Henry did build a small number of aluminum blocks for the Ford trimotor aircraft.
29 Bowtie is right, there was some Alum. flatheads made, no one is sure of the number, but when i was at Ford I found info that they were made.--TV
MCF Block. Check the front page of their site: http://www.motorcityspeedequipment.com/content.asp?page_id=newblock And that bore is much bigger than a stock Flathead. Check how close the piston bores come to the valves and each other. Plus the 4 bolt main gives it away. That's the guess I'm sticking to. Nice.
Really kool. Please keep me utdated, i will also need more info! Have you ever run it on Alcohol? I figure i will try to run it on high octane race fuel at first. The heads that sat on the engine, was Offy .325, that gives probaly to high comp. ratio, so i will use a set of .400 instead, then grind away some material to lower the ratio even more. The 4-71 will spinn with 10% underdrive. This is my plans, but i have to put the damm thing together first I have almost have to change my home adress to where i have my garage, since i have have been working on my modell A hot rod Finishet that one today ! Will get the plates next wedensday! Br Kjell Taildragger&fenderless
They painted the first one "Resale Red"? After all that led up to this, I woulda polished it to match the blower and to show people it's not just another 59AB. But then I'm not the Gold Chainer Street Rod buyer crowd they'll sell to. I'm sure the sanctioning bodies won't accept it except as a new cl***, so the first ones will go to people who can afford to have the big name shops like Brizio's or Boyd's build them an all brand new deuce turnkey resale red, gray tweed streetrod and matching inclosed trailer and tow truck to haul it to be displayed at the Nats and in the magazines. I hope they do make a new cl*** for these things, I'd like to see them really run on the salt and the strip.
Dave Tatom is building one right now ! He says the block alone is $14k and the total engine package he is building for his customer is over $40k.
Ouch! I know Dave builds great stuff, but curious where the extra $26,000 went? Blower, Ardun heads, etc...
It's a smallblock chevy that someone left main studs in and tried to port the heads while they were on the block. Sorry, I had to. I figured someone would have in 5 pages. It sure is pretty. Not my game but pretty.
Hmmmm.........118 is a speed I'd expect to see if you were running, say, mid-high 11's. Is something restricting yer top-end speed? Many years ago, while I still had my BBC S/Gas Vega (9.65-ish at that time - unstopped), I was running it at Bakersfield in their Saturday-nite bracket race. I came up against an injected (non blown) flathead dragster that had to spot me about a one-second head start. As I approached the finish line, he was nowhere in sight - so I let up. Big mistake!! He blew by me like I was in reverse. Anyway, I don't recall his dial-in - but, I'm thinkin' it had to be mid-8's or so. Does anyone know of this dragster? OR, was I just having a bad dream, lol.
