    1958 Chevy Impala w/ 409 Engine, 350 Trans, 2-piece drive shaft w/ slider on back half, & rear end (posi) was just redone.
    <p>Here&#8217;s our problem: When you pull out the drive tran shakes. You can feel it through the whole car. Then when you get up to 45 mph there are some crazy harmonics going on. Car shakes for 3 seconds then it goes away&#8230; shakes&#8230; goes away&#8230;

    Motor was recently gone over&#8230; two years ago we popped the crank plug out while going down the turnpike & dumped all of the oil&#8230; the trans was redone about 8000 miles ago, the 2-piece slider on the drive shaft was just added, and the rear was done about 3 years ago&#8230; Before that... car has been on the road since the mid 80's...Thoughts??? Any help would be greatly appreciated!:confused::confused::confused:

    Double check your center carrier bearing to make sure that the rubber is still in place.If you have one of those fancy solid urethane bearings,it could be that.We put one of those in my Brothers 58 wagon and it would vibrate the whole car.

    You can usually take your complete driveshaft ***embly to a DriveLine shop who will check for balance for free. They won't charge unless it needs parts replacement or balancing.

    I had a similar problem once and it turned out to be the bushing in the tail housing of the trans, it was letting the yoke wobble around at various speeds. It was worst below 45 mph.

    When you put the drive shafts back in make sure you have the rear wheels at ride level when you tighten the bolts on the carrier.

    I fought My 62 chev for 2 months over the carrier bearing.

    igorw may have hit the nail on the head! Everythings else has been looked out... center bearing is new, and still looks new, drive shaft was balanced last week when they added the slider... we made sure drive shaft was installed correctly... the only thing we haven't looked at is the tail shaft of the transmission... Thanks! You guys help out a lot!
