The RPU has a cool old muncie 3 speed. I am setting up the shifter and need some answers. I have it so the linkage arms point up after they are bolted onto the tranny. So, if I pull the rear arm back is it in 1st gear or reverse? I am trying to figure out what the shift pattern will be if I set it up this way. Do I want to make the arms bolt to the tranny and point down? Sometimes I get confused..... Thanks, Bob
Pull lever all the way back and turn input shaft. Push lever all the way forward and turn again. One way the rear shaft will turn backwards--that's reverse.
I thought of that, but the tranny is bolted to the engine and I don't have any way to release the clutch. I haven't gotton to the clutch linkage yet.
My levers point down. It goes into reverse when the lever is pulled back, so I guess that would be forward to you.
Hey Bob, try getting ahold of JYD he has a 3 speed in his coupe and could tell ya where reverse is. DAN
Bob, I'm sittin here, looking at my muncie 4 speed sitting on my bookcase. rear lever back on mine is 1st. But your reverse is where first is on a 4 speed so ...lever back with em sticking up would be your reverse.
Cool, that's what I was hoping. So if the lever is back, the shifter would be forward and my shift pattern will be: R 2 1 3 Right?
and if it don't work turn the handle upside down with the knob at the bottom seems to me my Muncie short shaft 3 speed circa 1967 had the levers up??? I did some searching but couldn't find any 3 speed pix.. here's a four, but I could swore my 4 speed had the levers down? either way if it's wrong it's pretty easy to flip them the other way! Paul
Hope this helps, I have a Muncie 3 speed in my truck(with a big hole in the floor so I could see everything) and the levers are pointed up on mine. I have an aftermarket shifter on the floor, and the shift pattern is: R 2 1 3 It seems to work good in my truck,Larry Oh, yeah the reverse arm is the rear one, closer to the tailshaft
