i have the orginal 3 speed, but was wanting to run a trans with the shifter on top, any one have any suggestions?
There is a few old shift kits that you could find to have a floor shifter using the original 3 speed.. Or if not, there is an adapter plate to run a Turbo 350 trans. but then you would also have to change the rear end, driveshaft etc..
You could run the truck ****** I think it bolts up NP. BTW, Ollin. Is that Boyd "C" with you in your avatar photo? LOL!
I used a T5 out of a '88 S10 in my '56 chev pickup w/235. You have to get a clutch disc to match the splines of the T5 input, and drill the 4 mounting holes in the case to 1/2". Everything else matches your 3 spd.
Using a t-5 too, easy install as long as you get the right parts. Hurst makes a floor shifter for the side shift truck trans. Just sold the shifter I had for the 3 on the trans that came with my truck when I located the right T5.
My fiance has a vintage 3-speed floor shifter in her 235-powered 51. It's a 54 side-shift trans, but the shifter still comes through the floor like a top loader
Just get a '37-'39 Chevy ******. Bolts right up to the 235 and it's a top loader. I've had one behind my 235 for 15 years now and never had a problem with it.
Mr Gasket/ Spectre 3spd truck shifter, its at autozone right now for $60 or so. I have one in mine, does exactly what you want, even has the parts for the older shift setup.
tag man is right 37-39 trans. i am in the process of installing 57 gears in one. gets you a little better split on the ratios.
