Hi there, does anybody know about this 34 coupe, more pics and info would be neat, ( it looks like the pierson bros after they sold it with a new front)
It's not the Pierson Bros Coupe. Far to many differances. A clue is the name Duncan on the door and Art Chrisman being in the photo. The beautiful Chrisman Bros Coupe was actually the Chrisman Bros & Duncan Coupe. Don't have any books with the history of the coupe but suspect this may have been a fore runner to that superb and innovative car.
Again it didn't. 2 very differant cars and boththe So-Cal and the Pierson Bros Coupes have survived as has The Chrisman Bros Coupe.
Dawson Hadley ran a Coupe similar to this...I also recall Bob (sp?) Roundthwaite having one also. Anyone? I don`t recall any other photos like this...
The car belong to Art Chrisman and it is in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sarx0JCLRU <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_sarx0JCLRU&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_sarx0JCLRU&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
That was one of my great grandpa Harrry Duncans cars. Harry duncan was a contractor from southern Cali. He loved to blow his money on fast cars. He owned the "chrisman coupe" for a short while, you can find pix of it painted in purple on the boards just search "Harry Duncan" I have a photo album full of pix of that and other cars. If youd be interested let me know and ill post them.
Yep, and it might have been one of those on the cover of Hop Up in the early 50's. the Duncan car also reminds me of the "Jado Special" (built in early 50's). Once owned by jesse James, he posted some color photos of it in the "one that got away" thread.
The Loose Cannon is right! He is on to something, pay attention to what he says. Because something is going on here???
The Jitterbug and chrisman coupe are two totally different cars. My great grandfather owned both of them at one point. The chrisman coupe we all know where that is (Harry Duncan owned it before the guy who sold it to Barris) The Jitterbug he bought from some guys called the spaghetti benders. This "Barn find" does not appear to be it. As far as I know the car has nothing to do with the pierson bros. You have to remember many of these cars looked similar. Id love to know where the jitterbug is but I don't get my hopes up. This is the 2nd time this year someone has pm'ed me saying they've found it. My great grandpa is in Hot Rod Heaven (Or hell Not sure of that one) cussing us all I'm sure. He knew how to spot a hot car and bought them up. His cars as well as other cars with the help from his motors won many records and top eliminators. Everybody wants to think they've found a historical car but not every 50s built coupe is one of them. Thousands of hot rods like this were built, some went fast and others went faster. As for the jitterbug I still say its MIA. Ill give my grandpa Vern (harrys son) a call later and see if he can help. Not long ago someone mistook the pacific autobody coupe for the jitterbug. We were able to find it in one of the old mags my grandpa has explaining who built it and when and we were able to eliminate it as a possibility. Ill try to do the same with this one.
This "barn find" car was owned a year or two ago and still may be owned by Cody Repp who was a member of the HAMB. He has not posted for 5 or 6 months. It is the old Jerry Kugel car with a new nose built by Ray Kinney. Alex Tremulis and Seth Hammonds also had previous connections with the car. Here are some previous threads on it: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=313935 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=286177
