Well not sure if it can be done but I have a 1949 ford F-1 truck with a 3 spd on the floor. My question is what type if any 4 or 5 spd trans would work on the original body an 6cyl flathead motor.

    Thanks Robert

4 speed from a 48 through 52 v8 or 6cy. should bolt right up however 1st gear is granney gear and all are stright cut gears ,whine and are hard to shift without double clutching.Good work truck ******s but not for hot roding. Also have a plate you can remove and install a power take off to run whatever, winch pump ect.

My 42' has a 4 speed truck ******. Whines like a mother, grindes every gear without double clutchin. Good strong ******s, but top gear is a 1 to 1 gearing ratio. Turns the driveshaft same speed as the motor. I run mine like a 3 speed, starting in 2nd. The PTO thing is cool too! Mine runs a driveshaft back to a hydralic cylinder, which raises or lowers the flatbed. Cruising speed is about 35-40 mph.
