Here's a quick update on my 'burb. 90% of it has been stripped bare. My wife has been busting it out. She's a keeper forsure. Got my wheels and tires on. I know, everyone loves red steelies. But, I had planned to run caps, but now think I may leave the steeleis and run spider caps this year, until we decide about color next year. Wiring should be done by the weekend. Then gotta finish the brake lines, fuel lines, and put the driveshaft in. Getting close, but don't know if I'll hit my June 1st deadline. Maybe by Sat. the 9th....?! BTW, Ignore the butt-ugly battery sticking out there. I hate it there, but.....what's done is done. Also, I had stated before that it had dropped spindles...It does not. That's ride height up front without dropped spindles or bags..... Well, here ya go.
Thanks all. As for the wheels and tires, well....I've had alot of cars and trucks with red wheels and whitewalls, even before Ol Skool Rodz came out! We did find some more history on it. We knew it was a Colorado Forestry vehicle, but turns out that it was a US Army vehicle then decommisioned to the forest service. Crazy huh?!? Here's a pic or two of what we found under the forestry green, Army green and lettering.... And I'm surprised, but very pleased with how clean the body is. With only 71,000 miles, I knew it would/should be decent, but it's even better.
Thats very cool,I have a friend thats selling one in very descent shape for $1500,after seeing yours I might get it.
That thing is killer! You going to tow that travel trailer with it? I hope so, that would look killer.
Eric, Thanks for hooking a fat guy up with a shirt The rear chassis stuff went together great. No troubles. And yes, we're going to use it to pull the Shasta. As a matter of fact, the engine, interior, wheels are all the same red! Are we gay, or did we just buy way too much red paint??!!
I had a fully restored 12' 1957 Shasta up until 10 years ago. Same one like yours. When we had our second kid it became too small so I sold it. I loved that thing. It was beautiful. And verrrry heavy. The "ice box" kicked ass.
Battery would look much better if it looked old. Use an Optima, and use a 'cloaking device'. Someone in the old Porsche world is making a false tar top battery that slips over the Optima. Looks period perfect. They have them for 6V, not sure about the 12V, but I'll bet you could modify it. Their phone number is 207-698-1000.
Here's the way I got it. Stock frontend, no engine/trans., nice green paint It's come along way in 5 months. Hope to be driving within 3-4 weeks. I'm not too worried about the battery. I don't plan to open the hood unless someone asks, or I'm working on it.
Why? Just because. I like the chevy grille better. I did take the marker lights out of the chevy grille and leave the gmc ones under the headlites. Just because...
