Getting ready to swap a 283 /pg into a 47 chev. Just lookin it appears that the steering box may get in the way. Since I'm sure this swap has been done many times, is this the case or will the small block clear the steering? If not how did you handle it. I know I can swap in a Ch***is engineering crossmember and rack steering but would prefer not to???

  2. You need to swing that small block and ****** up in there with the removvable part of the tunnel out. This combo will clear the steering box but you need to mount it high enough that the rear sparkplug on the drivers side clears the steering column. Exhaust will be a problem...seems like we used a 55/56 265 manifold in the old days..

I put a 327, 4-spd in my 48 Fleetline Aero sedan years ago with stock steering and used the early stock exhaust manifolds with front exit on driver's side. The stock front suspension handled fantastic with lower and stiffer coils. When asked about type of front suspension I said 1962 Corvette which is essentially the same.
