Hey guys. I have a 50 chevy 4 door sedan, I want to convert it to a 2 door and chop about 3 inchs out of the roof. has anyone done this before (to any car), If so do you have any pics? Any info is good, like can I use 2door doors and just move the pillar back. Anothe way also was to make it a 2 door convertable.
Good for you! There has been much discussion about this very thing lately. I'll have to find the thread.

My suggestions, you definitely need two door sedan doors. If you have access to a donor car, you can do it the way I'm doing it to my '60 Plymouth, if you don't, the way CSU55Chevy is doing his should work too. I think his back door filler method might be a bit more work but considering he didn't have a donor car to work with I'm quite impressed with his results. Keep this in mind. Your two door conversion needs to be 100% complete before you start to do the top chop. Everything needs to be fully welded and fitting properly. I promise if you try to do both at the same time it'll be near impossible. The roof needs to be in place to get the doors and rear quarters to fit properly. And the doors need to be fit properly to pull off a good chop. So plan it as two separate projects (the chop and the 2 door conversion) and do the 2 door thing first.
good luck either way, but on that car it seems that by the time you buy a donor car or just the doors, you could have prob sold what you had and put the money towards a clean 2 door to start with... not discouraging the mod, just one of those things that always seems like a lot of work considering there are quite a few factory two doors out there for not much more cash than the more doors...
This was a Toomanydoor Lincoln Zephyr, it was done by Alan Decker. He also did a Graham Hollywood into Two Door.
Here's a question, what about turning a 4 door post into a 2 door hardtop? I've been tossing up the idea on my '56 Patrician, but Packard only made 2 door HT's in '55 and '56. How much of a ***** would this be? Or should I modify the HT doors to make a 2 door post, something they never made? I have access to a complete rusty '56 HT to source all the parts from.
Skyrodder, dumb question: Did you simply weld the doors shut? Would also like to see construction photos... Todd
yeah just weldedthe doors shut.. here is a pic when it was just roughed out... FYI i had no idea what i was doing
I have seen this car in person several times, he's doing a good job. You can do it, too. If you **** it up, who cares, it's just a 4 door! Just kidding...now get to cuttin' and weldin'!
Cheers guys. I wauld love a factory 2 door but there too deer in Australia (from were i am anyway). I don't mind the look of the rear doors just welded shut and leaving the shorter front doors. Especialy if I chop it nice and low at the rear of the roof, makes it look pretty sleak.
